Need Suggestions: 27" Monitor 16:10 - Primarily Office Use

I have 3 of those-one an older HH and two of the HZ-all bought @ 250 to 300CDN. Not one dead or stuck pixel in the trio, backlight bleed isn't any worse than any number of other monitors I've seen, very bright out of the box. Enjoy yours. Mine are great in Eyefinity!

Need a reliable, rarely-used printer

Samsung CLP 325 is available from NCIX for 99.99, and I think I saw it at Wallyworld (Canada) for the same price. Third-party toner carts are available, but if you only need 5 shots a month, the originals will probably last you about 25 years!

Computer desk + chair problem

The problem appears to be the desk, not the chair. A lot of these two- or three-tiered desks place the monitor above optimal eye-level in an attempt to maximize total desk area with a minimum depth. Try placing the monitor on the second tier and see if that isn't better, even if it might seem...

Question about 6950 crossfire

I have an XFX 6950 reference dual-bios and a newer one in CF. From playing around with the older one I found there is little benefit to unlocking the shaders - maybe 1%, if that. Using a 6970 bios offers a good chance of frying the memory chips since the 6950 uses different (slower) ones...

Agree that you should wait to see whether you even need to upgrade the GPU. DO get another 4 gig of RAM if you have 64 bit Windows. Dirt cheap right now. I'm amazed no one jumped on your dog of a HD! 5900 rpm for a boot drive? Get a 500G or 1T 7200 rpm SATA3 HD NOW! Yes, right bleeding...

Need fan replacement for old card (4850)

How long ago did you buy it? Seems to have a 3 year warranty. If they can't replace it same-for-same, they could offer a very cheap (or free) upgrade.

Here is a PC World article that covers several dual-layer units. As I understand it, 16X is the max feasible spin speed for DVD. As for capacity, what more could you need right now?

What's the Difference Between A Radeon 9800 Pro 128 and a 256?

To all those who didn't fully read or understand the originator's message, he is talking about $250 in Canadian funds, which is less than $200 in Amerikanski terms. Avoid recommending newegg for shipment to the Great White North as they can't be arssed about shipping here.

MSI retail has game and software extras, I believe. Pretty much zero difference in quality of hardware, imho.

New PC - Can't Play Several Games do to "Mainloop" Error

i have spybot and ad-aware installed to clean my pc These programs do absolutely nothing to detect/remove a virus. They detect/remove spyware. You need something like AVG from grisoft to eliminate the possibility that your system is infected.

Question on Dual monitoring

A lot, if not most, of games do not take kindly to running with other apps. Some will simply not run if dual monitors are enabled. Besides, do you really expect do not have your arse perforated while you're surfing or answering e-mails? :beer:

re: the PS 2.0 vs 3.0 question - apparently only recent games use 2.0 at all. It will be at least a year - most likely two or more - before anyone codes for 3.0. I second the recommendation to get a 9700/9800 Pro and save $$$.
