Need Help choosing a mobo

I have had both the SIS655 and NForce2 boards - both platforms are very good. Personally, I found the P4 to be a bit more stable and responsive. Just my opinion. As far as the "sweet spot" for AMD, 2100 is supposed to overclock very well and costs about $100 retail. -D

Need Help choosing a mobo

That's for sure - I'm getting about 3,700 MB/s in dual channel mode compared to 3,200 MB/s in single channel mode. This is w/ dual Corsair XMS 3200LL modules @ 148 MHz. 100% stable making my P4 2.8 run @ 3.1 GHz => very fast. -D

Sis655 owners!!! Need your results...

I have been running my Gigabyte 8SQ800 @ 148 MHz 24-7 for 3 weeks running my P4 2.8 @ 3.1 (21x148). I would have liked to get a bigger OC but, I do a lot of DV editing and need 100% stability so 148 was about as far as I was willing to go. This is at stock voltage w/ the retail HSF. -D

I have a Gigabyte 8SQ800 which uses the SIS655 chipset and I like it a lot. The only chipsets to offer dual channel DDR support right now are SIS655 and Intel E7205. SIS655 is much cheaper than E7205 and offers the same (if not better IMO) performance. The new Canterwood chipsets by Intel are...

Cant Decide between a ASUS P4S8X or Gigabyte GA-8PE667 ULTRA2

I had so many problems w/ my E7205 that I sold it and bought a (cheaper) SIS655. I've been using the Gigabyte SQ800 for about 2 weeks now and Have yet to have it crash. I wouldn't buy the P4G8X or any other E7205 if I were you, invest the extra $ in something else. -D

I really liked the i850 chipset but, lets face it RAMBUS is on it's way out. I had a Gigabyte 8INXP and was very dissapointed. I just picked up a Gigabyte SQ800 which uses the new SIS655 and it is totally stable and very fast. This is a tough question - P4G8X will probably give you slightly...

Confused about 8INXP and it's NIC setup under XP pro

1394 is firewire - do you have an Audigy or something because the 8INXP shouldn't have a 1394 port by itself.... -D

What's the best MoBo that has the SiS 655 Chipset??

I have the Gigabyte SQ800 and I think it's great - traded in my 8INXP and couldn't be happier - especially since it was $150 cheaper and doesn't cause problems w/ my 9700 Pro the way E7205 did... -D

Need Help Upgrading my PC for VHS editing

Looking for new mobo, looking for recommendations

2100+ seems to be the sweet spot in the "bang 4 buck" catergory under AMD right now. As for RAM, I'd suggest dual 256 of PC3200 - any berand would probably do you fine but, I suggest Corsair XMS because of it's low CAS2 latency and excellent reliability. -D

LCD Monitors and Games

I switched from CRT to LCD last year - Viewsonic VX900 and haven't looked back since! I have noticed some light ghosting while playing games but, the trade off in deskspace, heat generation and mobility is well worth it in my opinion. Games like UT2003, Max Payne and Soldier of Fortune play...

I found anything with the SIS648 to be a great bang for the buck - you could get a a Gigabyte GA-8SG667 from www.mwave.com for about $82 brand new. -D

Will western digital replace a harddrive if I lost my reciept.

Typically the warranty is attached to the drive and not a paper reciept. By this I mean that the warranty starts the minute WD puts the label on the drive and NOT when you buy it. My guess is that yes, WD will repair/replace your HD - my main concerns would be how long will it take... -D

Should I return my motherboard for an Nforce2?

Most definately! DDR will be the "standard" memory of both Intel & AMD for many months which is a big selling point IMO. Plus by moving to the NForce2 you get to reap the benefits of using faster DDR RAM *PLUS* dual channel capability. AMD chips do not benefit as much as Intel by dual channel...

Motherboard help needed

All "current" P4 motherboards use 478 pin cpu sockets. I am pretty sure that the older 423 pin P4's will work in 478 sockets but I don't know that for 100% (anyone else?). If your 1.9 is a 478 then you won't have any problems ordering today. Your choice for a motherboard is mostly driven by...

Granite Bay worth it?

I sold my 8INXP after only 2 weeks and bought the Gigabyte 8SQ800 for $110. SIS655 promises E7205 performance but at 1/2 the price. Don't get me wrong, the 8INXP was a nice board but, +$250 for a motherboard was a tough pill to swallow. -D

A7N8X Problem

I would RMA the board - I don't put up w/ problems like that...who knows, it could be the PSU or the on/off switch for your case but, most likely it's the board. -D

What to buy for new gaming system?

Either system will work great for the useage you describe however, for the AMD system you will need the A7N8X rather than the (expensive) P4G8X which is an E7205 "Granite Bay" P4 board. I would also consider the 8SQ800 by Gigabyte for about $115 it is a very good P4 solution. -D

P4 DDR vs Rambus

RAMBUS won't be supported by the major system manufactures like Dell, Gateway and HP once Intel stops making i850 chipsets - DDR is the future and RAMBUS is the past. My advise would be DDR as the group has already stated. -D

Need an IRQ Table for the 8INXP

I had big problems getting this board to share IRQ's. The only thing I found that helped is to look in the BIOS under the PNP section. If you look, you will see that it list what devices are currently using that slot. This lets you shut down, move things around and hopefully find a winning...

MSI 655 Max vs ASUS P4G8X -- Anyone?

Yeah, big time. Any FSB increase would cause the Radeon to crash to 256 color w/in a few minutes of Windows loading. I don't understand how a company like MSI could include (and advertise) overclocking features and software yet not include a PCI/AGP lock. -D

MSI 655 Max vs ASUS P4G8X -- Anyone?

I had the MSI GNB Max and hated it :( It didn't have any AGP/PCI lock and wouldn't overclock with my Radeon 9700 pro. I'm sure that issue will be fixed in a BIOS update but, I had no patience for that and sold the board. -D

Need help in deciding which p4 mobo to buy!

In my opinion, the new Gigabyte motheboard is not worth the $. I had a Gigabyte 8INXP and sold it. I'm now running an SIS648 based motherboard that cost about $200 less and provides almost the same level of performance. -D

MSI GNB Max Report

No, no jumper to set. Make sure the memory is properly seated - all the way down. When you install the DIMMS, push them straight down from the center of the module rather than from each side. Sorry to hear you are having such problems...all that $ and the long wait for GNB...bummer:(

The fastest TYPE of RAM currently available is 1066 RAMBUS. Dual channel DDR (on an Intel E7205) will out perform RAMBUS but, only if you overclock it past the 133FSB currently supported. Rambus requires an Intel 850 chipset and must be installed as matched (size) pairs unless you are using...

Two RIMMS required?

Yes, for this board you need to have ALL RIMM slots populated. This board uses 184 pin PC800/PC1066 which must be installed in pairs. If you are not using RIMMs in all 4 slots, you will have to fill the other slots with cRIMMs to terminate the signal. Make sure you purchase 184 pin (16bit)...

If windows is loading then it is doubtful that you killed your cpu. It is more likely that you managed to corrupt a core windows file and that is w/ you only have access to task manager. I suggest you try two things before you replace your cpu: 1) Reset your BIOS - you might have something...

I'm struggling with an upgrade decision..now it's Intel!

I also do a lot of DV editing and completely understand about NO OC - nothing worse than a crash during a DVD burn, feels good to waste $5-$10 on a disc....not. I don't know ho much of a perfomance bump you will see upgrading the motherboard, my guess is not too much. If you are really looking...
