samba + win2k?

Just to make sure you are forewarned, if you try to use Samba as a PDC for Win2k boxes with sp2, you might run into problems. When sp2 was released, things were apperently changed enough to prevent joining a Samba 2.2.0 controled domain. To get around this, you could download the current Samba...

    Netgear FA311 - Any good?

ScreaminSoulman, if you search for "FA311" on this page, you will find mentioned that a small number of FA311 cards were programed with incorrect identification information. That might explain why your card is being detected as a FA312. A utility is provided to reprogram the card...

How should a Cat5 Cable be wired?

Yes, assuming that there are no problems with the cable, it should be able to do either 10 or 100 Mbps. I have a paper somewhere that tells what all of the different meenings are for the codes on cables, like the "LG" on yours. I have no idea where that might be now, but I wouldn't...

How should a Cat5 Cable be wired?

Gillbot, The cable that you have appears to be a crossover cable. The four missing wires are not used in 10BaseT or 100BaseTX. If you are connecting a computer to a hub or switch, then you will probably want a stright through cable, in which case the cable you have would not work. If you want...

Poll: Is there any reason why a hub would be better than a switch?

I am something of a freshmen in the world of networking, so I could be way off here, but I think that a switch could have slightly higher latency because it has to process the frame headers (or possibly entire frames). Because of this, a hub could be better in some situations. Also, packet...

Just asslaminated the networking lab at school. I figure about 10 PIII 600s, 10 PII 266s, and 1 400 G4 Mac. Unfortionetly, they won't be on constantly, but it is better than nothing. ;) http://stats.distributed.net/rc5/psummary.php3?id=339269

    D-Net RC5 Gonna lose 1st place in ~48 days

PinBall: If the issue would just be my making money from winning, I would agree to give anything that I won using the school computers to the school or a charity of their choice or something. D-Net RC5 Gonna lose 1st place in ~48 days

I have access to several hundred pentium II and pentium !!! computers at school. If only there wasn't that thing about using the school's computers/network for personal gain (the chance of winning $1,000 would get me in trouble). :(

How can I get others IP addresses?

If your computer and your friend's computer have recently exchanged a message directly with each other using ICQ (if a message has been sent directly to you or your friend's computer, not through the ICQ servers), you might be able to find you friend's IP address by using netstat at a command...

Don't worry Jator, I am still here! :) I still read the forums every day or two (though I skim headers and only read posts that grab my attention, or posts by people that I know). OT - Need Help from Linux Guru's

Something that you might try if you can't get the GeForce working with its driver, and you don't like the VGA16 driver (can't blame you for that ;) ) is to use the FBDev server. This would require 3 things, (1) use a kernel with framebuffer support (the vesa 2.0 driver would be the best for...

    self contained client disk

I would have to say that you need to ask for permission. Many businesses and organizations such as schools have policies against using their computer for personal gain (such as winning 1000 dollars). For example, many schools might suspend your computer rights for a period of time. I don't...

Linux = Kilowatt, ccalvert or ????

Kilowatt, I know. I ment it more in a "I don't believe that there is any other person working on something similar", rather than "Kilowatt is the last person left on the island and thus wins the prize money." ;) BTW, good luck getting everything working. If you happen to...

Linux = Kilowatt, ccalvert or ????

I am afriad that I have more or less stopped development on the SCCD since I never have any time to work on it anymore, so I guess that at the moment, Kilowatt is the one official floppy disk developer. I have been talking to him via email, and have turned over some of the stuff that I had been...

I have everything going in windows (except my sound card), so I should have some time to get Linux installed tonight and do some stuff. Floppy RAID? I supose it is possible, and if anything could use a speed increase, it would be a floppy drive ;) Seriously though, it would really increase...

Post your RC5/OGR benchmarks here from the 8010.463b clients

Joe, the Pentium 180 ODP was an upgrade to my old Pentium 90. It is basicly a pentium MMX chip clocked at 180MHz, but with equipment on it to take care of the voltage problems and stuff, so that it can run on older motherboards.

Post your RC5/OGR benchmarks here from the 8010.463b clients

After looking at the stats that you posted, Joe, I just thought that I should make sure you know that a Pentium 180Mhz OverDrive Processor with MMX Technology runs at 180MHz, not 60Mhz. ;) It does use a 60Mhz bus though. :) I am not 100% sure why the results don't match up with the Pentium...
