I have a Dell/Alienware m290x 4gb pull that I have no way to test. I originally got it to try in a Dell M6600 but no go despite my research saying it would work.
Does anyone have a Alienware or Dell M6800 that could have come with one of these and have the inclination to try it for me? I'll...
I've had a Drobo 5n for a few years now. Its been rock solid and the one that I have has the SSD port for faster write caching. It's always been used with a dedicated PC that has run Crashplan/Plex/Handbrake Encoding/etc. Basically my "Server" and the Drobo was the storage component.
If I...
Bittorrent,WinMX, and eMule use specific TCP/IP Ports to communicate. When these ports are set from within the router to FORWARD to a particular PC on your network that system is going to have a much faster connection to said service.

I'm not sure what prompted the attack on this DLink router but I'll try to provide some accurate info about it.
1) The router has a 10/100/1000 switch built in. The gigabit backbone is for connecting your WIRED PC's together, not for connecting to your Cable/DSL service. That WAN port is...
My system is the following:
Athlon xp 1700+ @ 2.1ghz
1 Gig PC2700 RAM
250gig Western Digtal HD
160gig Maxtor HD
NEC 2510 DVD-Writer
Wireless NIC
Philips 604 Soundcard
(2) 120mm case fans
BFGTech 6800GT
All that on a 350watt Antec 350watt Powersupply that came with my Antec 3200...
I'll hop in here since one of buddy's who I do computer work for is waiting for this card in AGP per my recomendation. It's good to see that these should hopefully hitting retail soon. We are shooting for $200 so once multiple manufactures start making them that should be likely.

I have no idea but I think you would be better of posting in the Dell Forums. I've used them numerous times and gotten very good results. There are some very knowledgeable people there who post often too.

I have a Samsung 1730 Laser Printer. The newer model is the ML-1740 I believe. They go for around $99 after rebates normal $169 with a Samsung $70 rebate. Anyway, good printer. Not the best for graphics or fine detail images but for general documents and text it does a great job. The toner...
The old PC2400 sticks that I have are currently running at PC2700 with a touch more voltage. They are basicaly PC2100 sticks that are made to be overclocked. Not sure if that answers your question though...I'm pretty sure those boards support PC266 up to PC400.

This question was already answered but I'll give the exact reason why. The DirecTV Tivo units can't encode and capture the video signal. They capture the DirecTV signal right off the dish to the drive. That is why when viewing DirecTV Tivo shows they are identical in quality to the live...
I remember reading Carmack's blog comments during Doom3 development that he was using a 5800 in his primary rig for testing. He also said that the noise of the card bothered him too. So yes D3 was probably coded primarily on a 5800.

I picked up one of these drives today to replace a my original 80gig WD JB drive. It's pretty amazing how much faster it is than my old 80. I mean, I thought that was pretty quick but the new 250gig with the higher density platters and everything really moves. To anyone thinking about making...
I'm sure some better experts than myself will chime in here shortly but I think the basic answers to your questions are:
1) Intel CPU's are multiplier locked, you can't change them.
and
2) Yes your PC2100 ram is most likely holding you back (understatement) from upping the FSB.
- J
Go look for a program called SoftFSB. It might work on your motherboard and allow you to run a 75mhz FSB or possibly a 100 if your motherboard supports P2- 350's and higher.

Strange problem for you guys.. any insight would be cool. I was over a clients house and I was trying to install his scanner and printer/scanner combo and I kept having problems with the scanner. I would go to control panel and it would tell me that the driver was already in use and that it...
All the guys at BestBuy were telling me how great this program is when it comes around. I was pretty psyched about it but I'm not sure I can justify the upgrade. It looks like my overclocked 1700+ TBred @ 2.12ghz is only around 10%-15% slower overall according to Anands writeup of the chip...
The speakers are so nice he had to post it twice!
Seriously, the Klipsch 2.1 speakers are pretty awesome. They are on sale at BestBuy today (last day of the sale) for $179.99 with a $50 mail in rebate. I think you can get them for around $140 shipped online though. If I had the cash that is...
Hey guys, I have been following the thread here pretty closely and I almost ready to pull the trigger on this from connect3d but I have one question that I haven't seen addressed. How well do the 9500 cards perform at stock?
I checked around for some benchmarks from some decent sites and no...
You guys are all wrong on this one. I worked at Sears for 7 years and my Manager approved about 7 or 8 of these that I can remember for customers who had indeed found a better price on a Mini Stereo,Washer,Dryer etc. I was actually the one who sold the MiniStereo and the couple had found a...
Visual's info about a header for your motherboard is probably the best way to go so definately check that out first but the other option may be a external sound blaster USB card. It's basicaly a soundcard that plugs in through the USB port. It would give you a line in which you could use with...
I mean't exactly what I said. The speakers do NOT accept 5.1 channels of analog INPUT. The INPUTs are a single 2 channel analog in and 2 digital ins. It will not accept 5.1 channel analog in's and the digital inputs of the speakers only recognize dobly digital signals so if your games use...
I almost jumped on a set of these but since they don't have 5.1 analog inputs they are pretty much useless for anything other than an XBox/PS2 for gaming. Sucks too since we still have two sets of these at my store and I wanted to pick up a set of 5.1 speakers with a Philips soundcard. Bummer...
Totaly unrelated to what you asked but... I just got a MX700 and this thing is a heavy ah heck! I wish I had gotten a MX500 with a USB extender cable. The MX700 is just too heavy for everyday use. Maybe I haven't gotten used to it yet but be aware.

Tomshardware.com did a review a couple months ago (it might have been a year ago at this point) on external harddrives. They tried the drives with Firewire and USB 2.0. Basicaly, even though the firewire was slower on paper it was much lower latency and actually beat USB 2.0 for overall...
I think ViperGTS was just aiming for the 8 in 98 and missed it and got a 7 instead...
Lots of good info here though! Almost makes two modems dialed up an once a very respectable alternative to broadband if you can't get it in your area.

HOLD THE PHONE! Check out the link below.. looks like it may not be that bad...

Definately check with your ISP to see if they support it but it may be something you can use already...
(Yes, a Diamond thing, sorry about that!)

Shotgun modems were a US Robitics thing I believe. You had to have a Shotgun compatible modems AND your ISP service had to support it also. Basicaly both modems would work together to give you two 56k download pipes. I don't know though, if it combined to give you a roughly 10k download OR if...
I would tell your Rich uncle to buy a new laptop for $800 after rebate at his local BestBuy if money is an issue. They never made a CD-RW or a DVD/CD-RW for that laptop. I don't believe it has any USB ports for an external one either. His only option would be an old 2x external parallel port...
www.tomshardware just did a mini review of the Mobility 9600 the other day.
Click here for Tomshardware writeup on it
It looks like they are probably running it in a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop even though they can't say which one it is.

There are issues with the crucial 512meg PC2700 sticks and NForce2 boards I believe. I know I've read about it. Anyone have any links to back me up? That may be your problem.

I had a system do some funky things to me and I noticed that the CPU wasn't completely flush with the socket even with the heatsink install just as you described. I pushed down on it while I redid the ZIF lever and that fixed all my problems. No harm in doing that if you are seeing the same...
I'll toss in another vote for the V3 with 2D quality. Completely blown away when I dropped in my voodoo3 PCI 2000 to test a system the other day here at the house. I am going to have to pull out my Radeon 8500 to see if it is better but i don't think it is.
