How to properly install drivers in RH 7.3

I suggest you read through the nvidia readme file. Check through your XF86Config-4 file to make sure that all of your input devices, etc are configured properly. After installing the nvidia drivers, you will have to make a few modifications to the XF86Config-4 file.

Trouble with getting 3 pointing devices working under X

dont want to use turn off button in XP

Make sure that power management is enabled in the bios, and that you have no problems in device manager dealing with acpi, etc.

Reinstall W2k with new CPU and Motherboard?

If you're moving to a new mb with a 2k install, you may want to do some research first. You'll more than likely get some kind of a stop error if you don't first revert back to standard ide drivers before swapping mobo's. I used to remember the specifics of the problem, but i'm drawing a blank...

Building New Computer, Need LOTS of Ports

There are some usb port replicators out there, but just check to make sure the drivers/software you're working with will recognize or use the ports. I've had problems with them and do not recommend them, but that's probably one of the better solutions next to filling up all your pci slots...

win98 cannot find win.com help please

Just reinstall 98 over the old install. Shouldn't have to "reactivate" anything. I don't have enough time to explain how to fix the problem without reinstalling.

You'll definately have to reinstall, but you can probably get by without having to do a fresh install. Just reinstall over the old installation. If you try to boot up without reinstalling, you'll more than likely get an inaccessible_boot_device error, which simply means that 2k can't access...

How can I tell what modems are hardware modems?

Plus with a hardware modem your ping times should be noticeably lower. And not all usb modems are hardware based. The usr pci hardware modems will run you $40+ usually. The winmodem in my laptop annoys the hell out of me when connecting/disconnecting, but other than that, it has no ill...

PC connects to internet, but no data transfer

Could be as simple as not being able to resolve dns names. Try pinging some good servers from a dos box. If you can ping out, you might look into reinstalling tcp/ip, dun, or just creating a new dun connection. Also check to make sure they don't have some old dns numbers in the tcp/ip...

Make sure you have assign irq to vga enabled in the bios. I know the bios on the k7s5a isn't the greatest, so you may have a hard time getting that irq situation worked out. Hardly ever will you be able to reasign an irq to a pci device from within windows. Usually that only works on old...

Any way to network 2 computers with ONE Wi-Fi card?

ICS will allow the xp machine to act as a dhcp server, so you shouldn't have to change anything if the 98 machine is already set up for dhcp. I would recommend that you always power up the xp machine first before the 98 machine, so it can assign the 98 machine an ip, otherwise the 98 machine...

Help problem

How can you get anything about missing your system.ini when it doesn't even see the c: drive, unless you have windows on d:, etc.? Do you only have 1 hard drive in the system? Easiest way to replace the system.ini would be to just rerun windows setup over old install.

When starting up my PC i get..Unmountable_boot_volume.

Are motherboard standoffs necessary?

In my experience the "tits" work fine. I have yet to have a board short out using the built-in standoffs. You may run in to a situation where there is a raised spot making contact with a place on the board where there is no hole to screw in through...in that case i would use the plastic...

HELP with system

I would try downloading the shutdown supplement from microsoft. It will take out the option in msconfig to even keep fast shutdown enabled. Most times with fast shutdown enabled, your system will reboot upon shutting down. Most likely you have some program or possibly a driver hanging it up...

Dual booting WIndows XP and Windows 98...

Most likely your little os selector overwrote the nt boot loader and that is the reason why you can't boot into xp now. I may be wrong, but what you could do is rerun the xp install so you get the boot loader back. Once you're able to get back in xp, edit the boot.ini to include the path to 98...
