Where does Redhat in particular keep the 'default user' directory. Like when you create a new user it copies kde settings and the basic folders etc to thier home directory. Where does it copy them from? Like windows has the Default user folder.

Well I wouldn't blame XP for this, seems pretty obvious your power outage fcked up your system. Do you have a surge protector on it? A CMOS Checksum Error is caused by the cmos battery being dead and will reset the bios settings to the default everytime you restart or it could of been a 1...

That's pretty normal for 2000, it is not a fast booting OS. XP on the other hand is but if you really wanta complain, install Advanced Server and wait the 5-10 minutes it takes to boot up =).
Never had any problems running games on it and I don't think the requirements are bloated at all considering nearly all pcs made in the last 2-3 years will run it fine.
Uh your CMOS battery is the battery on the mobo, looks like a watch battery that holds the cmos settings for bios. Replace that and see if your problems go away.
