TONS of people have this problem...... in fact, just about everyone with your motherboard has this problem. There is a program out that will let you monitor the temp of your CPU. I think it's called MBM5 or M5M......... try doing a google search on those two and see what you come up with.
I'm not an expert either, but the 230W power supply that I stole out of a Compaq computer 2 years ago runs my P4 1.6a at 2.4GHz just fine. If your PSU isn't giving constant power...... it will definetly hurt your overclockablility though. Generic PSU's sometimes don't give constant power to...
People said the same thing when I first bought my AMD. "Oh your puny little 230W power supply will never run that big Althlon!" I'm using the same 230W power supply that I stole out of a compaq computer 2 years ago on my P4 1.6A and Asus P4S333. I'd try it before I go out and spend the money...
Ewwe.......... IHOP's runny eggs are just nasty!
I agree with ElFenix though, whenever I want to heat up the room a little more, I just turn my computer on.
No, it doesn't seem to..... at least not by a noticeable amount. The P4S333 is also cheaper, and it has a few more options than the P4B266 such as supporting the 533MHz processors of the future (P4 2.6GHz and beyond).
Thanks Ken, I didn't realize the P4B266 had that option as well.
I have to agree with Jelly. You have no fact behind your statement Athlon. I've seen many people running at 1.8V, and some even higher.
I've also been running my duron 600 at 1000MHz for over a year and a half without ever a hiccup from the system. It's run fine for me at the max voltage...
I decided to go with the P4S333 because of the extra ram slot, the cheaper price, and a few comments from people who have the board. It seems to be just as stable as the P4B266 and has pretty much all the same features. This board is also set up to run the next generation of P4 Processors at...
Would there be any distict benefit from running the PCI or AGP slots at a higher frequency than default?
For example, would I gain anything out of my system by running at Turbo 2 rather than Turbo 1? I would try this myself but my system doesn't arrive until the 25th.
With Vcore spikes and the fan slowing down, it sounds to me like your power supply may be beginning to fail. Be sure to check that before you RMA everything. A bad chip won't slow the fan down. Unless you got a bad chip and a bad fan.
I never did get a shipping confirmation from googlegear or UPS, but I went to their website and sure enough, it shows my items as shipped with a tracking number right beside the order. Everything will be arriving on Feb 25 if UPS has their dates correct. Can't wait for my new system to get...
I chose the Asus P4S333 over the P4B266 because:
1. It was cheaper (afterall, I am only a poor NCSU student)
2. It can take advantage of faster ram (officially anyways)
3. It seems to overclock just about as well as the P4B266
4. Can't think of another reason
:);):);)
Hope that helps
About how long did it take to get your motherboard/processor? I ordered my mobo/processor Saturday night and was wondering about how long it would take to get to Raleigh, NC. I haven't gotten a UPS shipping confirmation yet either. Did you guys get a conformation for your orders?
BTW, after...
I haven't used the AS paste personally, but I've heard numerous people say that their temps were lower after 3-4 days of "burn-in" time. Please let us know if your temps do go down from what they originally were. The more info the better.
I didn't bother to take my own advice and ordered 512 meg of PC3000 366MHz OCZ ram from OCSystem.com for $88 per 256meg stick. No tax and shipping wasn't bad.
Hope I have good results.
I just ordered a P4 1.6a Northwood, 512 meg of DDR ram, and the Asus P4S333. After all of the success stories, I just couldnt resist. I would seriously think about a P4 NW with a DDR board.
Surely someone has got a 100 or 120 gig hard drive hooked up to their P4S333 or P4B266 motherboard! Cmon guys, I'm ready to order the P4S333 today! Help me out here.........
Is there a reason that you chose not to get the Northwood? The Athlon XP would definetly ourperform a non-northwood P4, but the Northwoods seem to be a better choice at this time. What in influencing your decision against getting a Northwood processor?
I am looking at getting the P4S333 and a northwood 1.6a or 1.8a, but I remember reading somewhere that larger hard drives (over 100gig) will not work properly with the board. Can anyone confirm this? Specifically, it was mentioned on the Asus forums that the western digital drives were having...
If you order from Kommax.com you won't have that problem. On their website, they list the RAM as being -5ns RAM, so that should be exactly what you get. It's only a little more expensive than the newegg.com price currently, and the -5ns stuff will overlcock well.
First post BTW.....
