For the GPUs of video cards, you should use Arctic Alumina. This is the one that is suppose to have no conductivity. Sounds like you shorted your GF3 out by not carefully applying the AS on it. I ran Arctic Silver 1 on a GF3 with no problems but I left a bit of a minor border open on the GPU...
I went with the Visiontek GF4 Ti 4400 for the lifetime warranty and the good quality of their cards. I had a GF3 Ti 500 and before that a GF 3 made by Visiontek and both were great cards.
For me, I doubt I will really bother o/cing my GF4 Ti4400 because in all my benches, I did not see enough of an improvement over the already high scores. Am I really going to notice the difference between 100 fps and 110 with everything maxed? Not really, so why put the extra strain and heat...
I got a newer card I think, or at least a newer box because mine did not list PowerDirector on the side. It probably was just a packaging error as I got the Visiontek cd, PowerDVD and PowerDirector. I looked at some of the pictures of the Ti4600 video encoder, so next time I open my case, I...
I just got a Visiontek Ti4400 and it came with the PowerDirector cd. I wonder if that means the Ti4400 can do Vivo as well or if I just got the odd mispackaged extra cd. I did not get the Vivo dongle in the package but it does seem odd since there are a few other Ti4400 that can do Vivo.
I got my Ti4400 card yesterday. I was probably one of the last people to renew my order. Ended up being $257 with the stupid California sales tax but that is still a little cheaper than the lowest online place from Pricewatch for the Visiontek GF4 Ti4400.
I just called to check on my order status on the 4400 and they said now end of April. Sucks when I was one of the first to order than get screwed on my reorder and have to wait forever.
Just curious how many out there have built-in LAN on their retail P4B266. Mine did not come with it and that seems to be a standard for the most part. Just wondering if there is any way to tell on the box as I still have some time to exchange mine.
I tried that demo with all beauty maxed at 1024x768 32 bit color and got 84.1 while running some other apps in the background. I have a P4 1.6a @ 2.13 and a GF3 Ti200 using the 28.32 Dets. I am sure I could get a bit higher on a fresh boot with no apps running. Something must be a little...
The Ti4400 just has slower ram chips 3.6 ms vs 2.8 for the Ti4600 hence the 100 mhz diffence of their defaults. Some people have been getting lucky and getting the Ti4400 up to 4600 numbers but if you think every card will do that out of the box, you will be disappointed.
MrBass, just curious if they still charged you tax on your reinstated order? I have heard some people mention that they were not charged tax on their new orders and since I am in CA as well, was wondering if that was the case with you. Thanks in advance.
Are they not charging tax where before they did? I have not reinstated my order yet waiting to see what is going on. But if I can save on the tax, I may have to. I am in California so it was 8.25%.
I never installed any of the drivers from the Asus site or cd. I had the USB 2 bracket plugged in and my extra hub plugged into it when I installed Win XP Pro and ran Windows Update when finished and above is what is listed in my hardware manager. I think with the 2 plugs I have the one close...
Visiontek already put smaller caps on their cards so all the ones in the stores now should fit as well. Even though it was an Epox problem, Visiontek decided to alter their design as well to give maximum compatibility.
Overall, most o/cs only yield any big difference in the 3DMark scores. Most game scores are only about 5-15 fps different between the Ti4400 and the Ti4600. Turn on 4xAA and and 64tap and then you will notice the difference of the Ti4600
If you can only get the Visiontek or PNY, get the Visiontek. Otherwise you may want to pick up the pink Gainward because the VIVO option is noce to have.
If you think you are going to have the card for a while, you may want to get the Visiontek or PNY since they have lifetime warranties (I would favor Visiontek here). If you don't care about the frills but still plan to pay $300 I would get the Gainward since it does have some frills but you are...
In some of the reviews, they show the Ti4600 core as saying Ultra on it and the Ti4400 core has no special notation. Pretty much all Ti4400 cores are ones that did not reach 100% stabilty at acceptable speeds in Nvidia's tests and the Ti4200 would be the similar just not reaching the 4400...
http://www.evga.com/products/preorder/default.asp
That is the preorder link for the Evga GF4 Ti4600 with the ACS2 cooling system and the free step-up trade-in program for the preorder at $399. What that means is you buy the card and within 2 years if you want to upgrade to the latest version...
If you have no desires to o/c, then get the xp chip. It is the next step up in the core that has some small added features. If you want to o/c, then get the 1.4 since it is one of the last AMD chips that does not have a locked clock ratio.
You could always try plugging a mouse into it and see. Look on page 2-24 of the manual, make sure the USB 2.0 jumper is enabled. Also, I did not download anything from the Asus site. everything was just clean install of Win XP Pro, and then Windows Update. This is the only USB Update from...
I have had my P4B266 retail up to 150 fsb with no problems using my MS Intellimouse Optical and MS USB Internet Pro Keyboard in the 1.1 USB slot. I have my Hub plugged into the USB 2.0 bracket.
I am sure you brag on your good luck in every GF4 topic here in the forums. You are suppose to share not just brag unless you post in the Brag & Moan topic.
