Upgrade from GeForce 4 4600 TI to ?

I would check out the ATI 9800 Pro-- I just got an MSI RX9800 Pro 128 which is actually more of a 9800 XT "lite" (XT Core underclocked) and it runs quite well. I upgraded from a G3 Ti200 with a P4 2.8, so similar situation. I got the card for 199.75 or something lame like that ($200)...

Farcry 9800 pro issues

Actually, no, I don't, but it is uncanny how similar our posts are...! For those that are interested, the issue appears to be related to the Catalyst 4.7 drivers. Using 4.8 betas (from www.guru3d.com...link to follow?) cleared the issue. From most posts it looks to be with ati 9800/9700 cards...

Farcry 9800 pro issues

9800Pro 128 vs 256 (and more)

Thanks Dman, Vonkhan and sickbeast for the insight. Yes, I like to make my stuff last. I know there is no way to tell whether a 9800pro 256 would have any better longevity than say, a 128MB or an X800 SE, but what do you all *think* would happen? This is a tough question for semi-enthusiasts...

If the audigy is anything like the live series, then windows won't have a damn clue what it is when you first install. Remove the "phantom sound card" hardware and when they're redetected by windows point them to specific drivers, either on CD or file. This is the only way to get stuff to work...

How do I perform a low level format?

Blur, I don't know if the IBM utils work universally, but if you've got nothing to lose then I'd suggest at least looking at wipe.exe. I've never personally used them so I don't know if they're even worthwhile for IBM drives.:) I only know they exist because I was faced with possibly needing...

Whoops, got a little excited there. Aside from manufacturers defects, is there anything that could cause RAM to go bad? Especially after initially being ok? No attempts to overclock, nothing of that sort, just run-of-the-mill usage. --woohah

How do I perform a low level format?

If the drive is still under warranty, then call the manufacturer and have it replaced. Else, check out their website to see if they have utils for your drive. I know IBM has some utilities that will scan your disk for bad sectors, and let you low-level format the drive or the boot sector...

If the plastic/nylon pieces are threaded on one end, but then are triangular on the other, they they can be used as a one-piece standoff/fastener. screw them into your case, then you should just have to guide the mobo in. They'll snap in. Much faster than metal standoffs, but I would guess...

How do you mean "turn down the memory timing"? The Bios is configuring that automatically as far as I can tell.... I was guessing it was something to do with how Windows was shutting down. Do the symptoms not match? --Woohah
