how is the RAM a bottleneck... it's DDR333... might not run at the fastest timings because it's not corsair or crucial, but it should still be fine!

Just one more question about CPU Heatsinks

Get the AX-7, much more friendly design for fitting on your epox board, and costs 10 to 20$ less than the alpha8045. Performs as well or better too. -mA

Best Soundcard?

I'm all for the Hercules GameTheaterXP.... had bad drivers at first, but that's cleared up now, and it works a million times better with my amd system on winxp than the audigy/liveplatinum ever did.

xp r suxxor, won't install, need help

winxp does not call home unless you tell it to. that is, unless there's a newer version than what i have that does it regardless. however, it you dont tell it to, it wont be registered and will crap out on you, but it will fully install.

Can a peltier fit under a pal8045?

You can use the second set of nuts that have risers on them to raise the alpha higher than normal if you're going to put a peltier under it (lotta people fried procs because of this. since that when you use those on a mobo that doesn't have HUGE holes for the screws, your hsf is too high and...

how high did you get your kr7a raid?

My kr7a-raid and xp1900+ are running at 12 x 147mhz stable but i have not tried unlocking yet. I can boot into windowsXP at 12 x 152 but it gets unstable quickly. I'm 99% certain it's the cpu limiting me, as that's >200mhz over stock speed. This is with OCZ pc2700, Alpha PAL8045, 80mm Delta on...

Will a Swiftech MC462a fit on a Abit KR7A-133r?

Right on dunkster... my xp1900 is running with a 142mhz FSB at 25C idle with my alpha8045/delta combo. I even have the delta running ~4/5 power to reduce whininess :)

Running AGP and PCI out of spec => Destroy Hardware??!?!?!

It's recommended that you don't run the PCI bus over 40 to 45 mhz or you risk data corruption. However, some people don't have that problem since you see the occasional 180+FSB.

As for maximum voltage, AMD recommends no more than 1.85vcore, but it's been done up well over 2v with extreme cooling systems. The DDR voltage can go up to 2.75v but i try to be more careful with that because it has no active cooling. As long as the processor stays cool and you're not trying to...

Crucial and the ABIT KR7A-RAID

Didn't read the link carefully enough? Meh. The KR7A has problems with running _some_ 512MB/1024MB _ECC_ modules. non-ECC it does fine in most circumstances.

How do you "ghost" to different mobo?

Are any of the other components in the system different? Pretty much with all the driver conflicts you'll get trying to do it that way, you'd be better off just installing the OS and programs fresh and copying any data you need over.... be much much cleaner that way. -mA

What is the best way for me to remove the Fan on my Video Card.

There's a neat little trick that can be used if you have a can of compressed air. Turn the can upside down so that it sprays that freezing liquid out and spray a good bit onto the heatsink. Wait a little bit and it should pop right off. Seen it done, simple as can be. -mA

Alpha fans on Epox-- anyone used 'em?

If you're worried about clearance on the mobo, get the new ThermalRight AX-7, it's got a 60mm base that extends to 80mm on top for the fan. Performs as well as, if not better than the alpha cooler does in all the tests i've read. -mA

The alpha pal8045 fits the KR7A-R133 too, just not a lot of the boards with "bad " placement of a row of capacitors too close to the socket (even though those boards are still within AMD specs...).

CPU temperature sensor during install

You should only bend down the temp sensor a little, because if you don't get good contact you're going to get lower temps than what they really are. I have that mobo too, i just bent the sensor a little so that the processor could easily bend it a little bit extra when i pushed it gently into...

eep... forgot to mention that the memory type is PC2100 (or PC2100/2400/2700 from corsair) DDR-RAM, so 133mhz fsb w/ double data rate = 266mhz effectively.

Most bang for the buck on mobo's for overclockability, i'd say the EPOX 8KHA+, it goes for well under $150. For RAM, get either Crucial or Corsair (crucial should be much cheaper), you should be able to get over a 50mhz total overclock. You should be able to get the FSB up to at least 145 from...

simple question about changing processors

You might have to goto the bios setup and change the settings. Extra caution would say to clear the cmos with the jumper before booting with the new processor to get rid of the old multiplier/fsb settings, but since this is an upgrade you're not going to burn it out by having it boot at a higher...
