How much money would it take you to never again watch television, go see a movie or use a computer again?

That's a tough one considering that much of my money is spent on TV, movies, and computers. If you got rid of those three... I'd have no need for money (besides the food and shelter thing).

Has anyone actually got the Tivo update?

I got the update. My select-play-select codes don't work anymore. Also, it doesn't look like I can use Tivo-to-go because I'm a Tivo Basic customer. But it just happened last night, so I haven't really tried yet.

    electronic / RC / techie / geek people ...

You'd have to know how the XBOX controller works. There may be bi-directional busses that would be really difficult to deal with wirelessly. You'd also have a big, chunky piece of electronics wired to your controller (including a battery).

    Dell on QVC - 8pm EST 12/4/04

Try Dell Small Business. I think they have something with the 4700 for $500 or so (includes a 15" LCD). Of course, this could have expired already.

The Seattle Times had a Fry's BF ad. It was only one page - on the back of the sports page, as usual.

Electronics folks - question on multimeters

I've had good luck with my Mastech (MAS-345). It was $50 through my school's EE department (University of Washington). The only problem is that the backlight seems to have died. Spend a few more $ on a nicer model - hopefully it will last longer.

    Rumor regarding Halo 2

Some people say it's the 9th (not the 29th), which supposedly coincides with the countdown on ILoveBees (I haven't verified this myself). I beat the last level on legendary, and got no such message (not even a special ending). I didn't beat legendary "all the way through," so maybe the...

    Mozilla Thunderbird Mail Notification Question

Hi everyone, I'm a new convert to Mozilla. I switched to Firefox and Thunderbird four days ago (from IE and NS Communicator 4.79). With Communicator, I was able to monitor the "last modified" status of a specific file to tell an external VB app when I received new mail (I'm not a CS major...

    **OFFICIAL HALO 2 THREAD**

Of the four Bestbuy locations in my area, only one is advertising a Halo 2 launch party (Bellevue, WA). They said they would be giving away an XBOX in the 20-30 minutes before the midnight launch. I guess they're expecting lots of people. I didn't pre-order, but I expect that there will be a...

    Firefox question

Has anyone found a way to customize the keyboard shortcuts in firefox? I just downloaded Firefox 1.0PR. I've been using IE for more than 8 years now, and am quite attached to ctrl-o. Adding http:// in the firefox file open window causes a page download for offline viewing.

    WOAH Dude! New airfilter.

I just got a new filter in my 02 Civic. Before this, it was getting 23-25mpg in mixed driving (yes, it's a well-maintained Civic). Now, I'm getting 33-35mpg, which is the advertised mileage. Of course, there were other adjustments made besides the air filter.

Finally received my first post-college job offer, but....

I got my BSEE last month. I'm still looking for a job. Of the 20-30 applications I sent out, I only got one response. I got to the final interview, and they said that the offer would probably be $40K. The average BSEE salary where I live (and would work) is $55K. Even though I didn't get the...

    Starting Matlab today....

Yes, I've heard that too. Another thing is that Matlab is very picky about code portability between versions. I wrote my final project for an applied mathmatics class in Matlab 7, and it wouldn't run in the instructor's Matlab 6.5. The help features in Matlab are pretty good; otherwise...

Mini Cooper for a 'big' guy?

If you put the front seats all the way back, there's no room in the back seat for a passenger's legs. Of course, if you're considering a Mini, then you probably won't be ferrying passengers around anyway. Also, if you're looking at the automatic transmission, the 02 model I drove had problems...

Finding the contents of the system tray in VB

I was wondering if anyone knows how to access the full contents of the system tray in VB (either .NET or 6.0). I'm running WinXP Pro. The reason I'm doing this is because I'm developing a wireless PC monitor that allows me to view CPU usage, system temperatures, and network usage on a remote...

    Laser based speed detectors?

My detector has an "eye" on the top, away from the main sensor array. The instruction manual said that the eye is bi-directional, and looks forward and backward (so it should be placed such that it has a clear view of the front and back windshields). A laser has some dispursion, so it is not a...

LOTR: ROTK Question: What happend to the Saromon or whoever the first white wizzard was?

DEAD: Madden NFL 2004 for PC - $14.88 @ Target (B&M only) - hotter if OOS!

Weird. There's a good chance that she took my DL for my age. I'm 22, but I still get carded for R rated movies and video games (the last time I got carded for a game was Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon two years ago). But it's probably some corporate red tape.

That's Rise of Nations (a gift) and Max Payne 2 (for me) on the cheap. For some reason the clerk decided to take info from my driver's licence before making the adjustment. I guess so that I couldn't pick up more rainchecks?
