    Lamest State **CONFIRMED OFFICIAL POLL**

Granted, using my revised theory, Wyoming is undeniably lame. But couldn't the same reasoning be used against, say, Idaho or the Dakotas? New theory: Lameness is regional, like say the lameness of the mid-atlantic, the midwest, the south, the north-east...but votes for regional lameness are...

    Lamest State **CONFIRMED OFFICIAL POLL**

I'm guessing because they both have huge populations. Hence, lots of people who used to live there, but moved because they hated it. If you did a poll for the "best" state, I suspect Texas and California would be near the top as well. Of course, this theory doesn't explain why Wyoming is...

Oahu is indeed the worst place in Hawaii, but it's still better than the best place in, oh, half the states in the contiguous 48 :) Good things in Oahu: Punch Bowl (Pacific theater veterans cemetary) Pali lookout North Shore Duke's Restaurant H3 (highway to north side, nice...

So, which part of "The World" will you buy?

I'm gonna buy the island that represents the part of the middle east where "The World" resort is located. Then I'm gonna put a pond on the island and build a mini "The World" resort in that pond, and then make millions of my cool recursive land deal. Somehow.

    legal-sized flatbed scanner <$200?

Cliffs: I'm looking for a flatbed scanner that will handle legal-size documents (8.5" X 14") for personal use, looking to spend less than $200. If you care why, read below. Reasons: I want to scan in a few decades worth of family photo albums to distribute to my siblings electronically...

Do you USA'ers have an equivalent class of vehicles to Brits?

If you're asking if we have small, light, affordable convertible sports cars in the US, the answer is yes, we do... but they're all made in Japan or Europe :) (Miata, S2000, etc.). The closest thing to what you've listed that's actually MADE in the US is the aforementioned Pontiac Solstice...

If you haven't seen one with all the exact options you want, just be patient and keep looking..it's a big enough of a purchase to wait for exactly what you want. HOWEVER, if you've seen the exact car you want but they were asking more than you were willing to pay, you may have to raise you...

Do you think the major car companies will ever offer "direct to consumer" purchasing?

They could, and would....I think this change would be revenue-neutral from the state's perspective. Nevertheless, dealerships would lobby against it hard, and politicians would probably tow the line, out of fear of losing a donor. I can just imagine the campaign ads: "Big Business wants to...

Do you think the major car companies will ever offer "direct to consumer" purchasing?

I like the idea, strikes me as a vast improvement over the current method of selling cars. Dealing with car salesmen seems to be a universally unpleasant process. I'd even go one step further and let these "demo lots" rent cars out for a whole day, or longer, for some nominal fee. First hour is...

    LaTeX is awesome.

Wrote my master's thesis with it :) There's also some plug-ins for word that let you enter equations in LaTeX format, which for me is faster than the built in equation editor. There's also some nice graphical front ends for it, such as Scientific Workplace.

I'm not dissing the new pad, but the pics remind me of.... ...pretty much my last 17 apartments. Anyone studying for or have passed the EIT?

You don't really need to get a PE unless you work in a few specific fields, engineering construction being one of the big ones (Bechtel, Fleur, Halliburton, etc.). In short, if you need one, your employer will tell you. I'd say a vast majority of engineers don't need it. Of the dozens of...

YACT: What's happening to my steering wheel?

When's the last time you checked your tire pressure? A simple explanation could be that your tires were underinflated, and they pumped them up for you. Makes a big difference in steering feel. Just a thought.

    No PMI with 15% Down?

Wells Fargo has an 80/20 loan (no downpayment) with NO PMI. 80% is a standard 30/15 year fixed rate mortage, 20% is variable home equity line of credit. Whether or not they offer it depends on your credit score and the real estate market in your area. It is, after all, somewhat high-risk for...

    Sales tax on cars suck!!

It's a sales tax. You make a sale, new or used, you pay the tax. "But why don't I pay when I buy a used <blank>?" You would if they could make you. Think about it, you pay sales tax on anything they can track the sale of. In most cases, this is just cars (tracked by registration) and...

*POLL* Do you let the gas tank run to "empty" ?

I usually fill up once the light comes on, even though I have at least 2 gallons left in the tank then. And I'm not convinced running low does any harm to the fuel pump...running out, yes, running low, no. It's true that the pumps use gas for cooling and lubrication, but the gas flowing through...

New DVD-RW for Xmas, replace CDRW or DVD-ROM?

Just to be clear, the # of drive bays is a problem. I have only 2 5.25 slots, so installing all three optical devices isn't an option. Thanks for all the opinions. I have a feeling I'm going to replace the CDRW, but keep it around in case I change my mind. I'm thinking I need to use the DVD...

Going to court tomorow, Dress nice?
