Newegg needs gift certificates. So go to their site and on left side toward the bottom click on "Your Ideas"
Tell them you want gift certificates. We all know most of our family is computer retarded. So its easier just
to get them to pitch in around the holidays...
Yes - I need that kind of power from my PC.
Im a mapper for BF1942. I use 3dstudio Max and Photoshop for a lot of the work. In photoshop im working with textures that are 192mb in size. Then I have multiple layers, which pushes the sizes beyond 400mb. Ever try to quickly save 400mb of anything...
Its cool in a "geeky" sense. But since process technology usually only affects things several years down the road, its not terribly important right now. Besides, we have have yet to see what SOI does for mainstream products. (ala Hammer).
Like they said, dual channel is pretty useless unless you got onboard video. The nforce boards do support dual channel (I have an Nforce2). But I bought it with future upgrades in mind like Barton, SATA and DDR400. Dont get one for the dual channel feature alone.
I post here occasionally and usually lurk every day. As such I dont have a feel for who is a guru. So I was curious who here is generally considered to know their stuff? This isnt flame bait. But I have a series of questions for someone pretty knowledgable in the ways of nerd-dom. Thanks.
I know a few folks at AMD. They dont cuss Intel or say horrific things about them (most of them anyway). In fact, I know one that bought Intel. When I called him on it, he said "they aint making a profit on what I payed for this chip". Which is true. Neither company is making money off their...
Switching allows you to set different voltages and amps. A normal PSU doesnt.
Only time I have seen switching ones used is for pelts. Pelts perform more "optimally" when you use a few volts more than the 12v supplied by a regular PSU.
(or something like that, its been a while).
Here is some interesting info.

-Partial quote sorry. The author of this quote says the Hammer will not deliver the kind of performance increase that k-6 --> Athlon delivered. Sir, your dead wrong. Hammer will deliver in performance. The real question is will they be able to make enough of them.
Second, If Hammer flops. AMD...
I think AMD will pull through with Hammer. The issue isnt whether hammer will be any good. Ill bet anyone here $100 it will spank Norhtwood and Prescott. The issue is the economy as a whole. If we are still in a recession, not many people are gonna buy CPUs anyway. You can have the best product...
make sure whatever proggie you use for MP3s has the volume turned up. Basically, go to every panel that windows has for volume and crank it up. Then go to every panel Turtle beach has and crank it all the way up. That way your amp isnt struggling to push the sound. Then just use your master...
If you have to ask about thermal grease, then perhaps we should address some other issues first:
1. do you know how to format a hard drive?
2. Are you planning on overclocking? You listed pc2700 memory, thats why I asked
3. never trust the manual, go by whats printed on the motherboard itself...
Im not sure if this has been mentioned. But since your so serious about cooling. And your not gonna vapochill - why not use a water chiller?
Most modders use dehumidifier coils to cool the water. Usually gets your water below freezing (so ya gotta use antifreeze. With the water temp that low...
We all know in the high tech industry your only as good as your last product. And that you have to execute quickly or wither away. Its clear that AMD is not executing. And that Intel is. The delay of Hammer is being used to up the core speed.
From Xbit labs:
Also, there are rumors that the...
Its a reasonable argument. And he made it real clear in the article it was speculation. Sadly, we will likely have to wait at least 3 more months before any kind of benchmarks.
Ive only seen one benchmark on hammer. But the the number was so outrageously good i have serious doubts it is...
From eveyrthing I read here, it looks like Nvidia tweaked for 3dmark 2001 and thats it.
And that = Ghey
Anyone know where to get old releases of Detonators? Im still running what came with Win XP. Whatever the hell that is (im too lazy to look). but im fairly certain I need updated ones, and...
I got the 550 watt Enermax. No, I didnt order a 550 watt - it was in a box that was mislabeled.
Anyway, the +5 volt line is underpowered on mine. I got a 1.6 @ 1.8
The +5 volt line reads about 4.8 most of the time. It has gone as low as 4.6 and managed to stay on. Also the +12 volt line...
Via definitely has had their share of problems. One first hand account is interesting:
AMD did a reference chipset for the athlons. the AMD 760/761. They released these specs to Via. Via took them and decided there were a few components they could "cut corners" on. So they did. THen all of a...
If anyone wants AMD merchandise, I can get it.
I only live about 10 minutes from AMD. And I know where their giftshop is. It may take a while cuz I would have to ask a friend to get the stuff. (they dont allow just anybody into the buildings).
Off the top of my head. I remember pens, a few...
If you are saying your stock PC speakers are as loud and the same quality as the Z-560s.... then yes, you are deaf -OR- your friend doesnt have them set up properly.
I had Monsoon flat panels before I got the Z-560s... the difference bewtween the two is night and day. There is a 1000%...
I suggest doing a search on this forum for "speakers". There are a LOT of threads about this subject with great info. Many talk about every speaker you mentioned.
If your gonna get the logitechs, at least get the z-560 (not the 540). I got the 560s. Some people complain they blow too easily. I...
Just do a search on your favorite P2P for "speaker test".
P2P got the THX intro, DTs intro etc etc. Also, a lot of good bass songs that go thru the entire range.
its the word "malay" on the CPU that caught my attention. Could that be short for Malaysia. I know AMD has their stuff made (assembled) there.
Maybe an old 386 AMD cpu?
Maybe not, seem to recall very early AMD chips have Intel written right on them. Well, im coming up blank.. sorry.
Why did this become a discussion about AMD's PR rating? The original post was Hammer will debut at 3400+ and some speculated speeds of 2.6 gigs (for that high a PR rating)..
Guys... no and no. It wont be 3400 or anywhere near 2.6 gigs
So quit getting your hopes up. I dont want to see any...
Not only is that info old... it is false.
The Hammer will not debut at anything near 3400+. It it will be lucky to see 2 gigs, much less anything over 2 gigs. Second, the inquirer isnt the most reliable source of info.
I have no doubt the Hammer will be a decent chip, but something more...
Except I had a Seagate die a horrible death on me after about a year. The old click of death thingy.
Got 2 maxtors in there now. But they are brand new, so cant really say anything yet. I did quit powering down every night. I think the restarting every day was adding wear to them.
I have the TB Santa Cruz and the Logitech Z-560's too. Running them on WinXP Pro. I agree there are WAY too many volume controls. Master, control panel, task bar, in settings etc etc etc. Then theres the one in Win Amp too.
So i turned all the software ones to at least 3/4. For good headache...
I also have it on VERY good authority that AMD is considering a 166fsb.. So count this as a second vote for that happening. Indeed it would help AMD keep up a little better until Hammer arrives. Every little bit helps.
Good question:
I only used to own 5,400. I recently bought a 7,200. Im glad I did. I do a fair amount of large file transfers (read: the p0rn). Im able to get large files over much faster. And when your doing that a lot, it saves you a lot of time.
My OS is on my primary HD too. My boot time...
Weird... Since he has to reset the powerstrip it sounds like he has a short somewhere.
Did he smell anything wierd?
I would disconnect components one by one until it turned back on. Whichever was the last he disconnected would be the problem. If it never turns back on, the its time to...
I would RMA it but i cant remember where I got it from. You see, I have a lot of miscellaneous hardware laying around :)
Anyway. it sucks cuz im fairly certain more and more clusters are gonna keep crapping out. If I can get it stable tonight im gonna burn everything i can.
First my comp wont boot properly. I get a scandisk message I have a bad cluster. I fix that. Today im playing CS and my comp locks hard. First time its ever done that. I reboot and get a message I have yet another bad cluster. WTF?
My HD is a seagate 5,400rpm 40 gig. Its about 1.5 years old...
:Q
OMFG... just got back on the net after finishing my mod... HOLY COW! The R300 kicks some serious a$$. It really doesnt matter how well NV30 does, this core will still be a decent alternative to Nvidia. And competition is always easy on the wallet.
Color me impressed.
just for giggles you may wanna back off on those ram timings a little bit and see if that helps. Aggresive memory settings can cause instability sometimes.
There are tons of crappy PSUs out there. So at least get one from a company with a good reputation. AFAIK Enermax has a very good one. 300 watts is plenty unless your planning on some serious overclocking and have tons of components in your system.
I have both. Lots of stuff and am going to OC...
