no experience with the board u mentioned ..and i have not heard or seen anyone OC with this board... looking at this board on the gigabyte website and would not recommend it to anyone (as it uses SDRAM which drastically chokes the P4s).... dont skimp on a MB its the heart of your computer
Dont all ASUS motherboards hold Vcore voltage to +0.15 past default, regardless of what u set it in the bios...
Example:
Norhtwoods maximum vcore attained on an Asus MB is 1.65 even though it can be set higher in the bios.
I read this somewhere but i foret trying to see if Asus MB owners have...
<< It is pretty obvious I think....Many boards lock memory ratios at certain points so too high of a fsb actually become counter productive....also too high of an fsb without getting to a fsb that may change to a 1/5 pci multiplier may put things too far out of spec for most ppl...
plus the...
i have seen better cpu and memory scores by the 1.6a when OC'ed than the 1.8a OC'ed but why do more people own the 1.8a when the 1.6 is cheaper and overclocks better?
this board is the s%#t...check my 1200MHz overclock air cooling....

sorry to hear that rockhard..the board is actually a good performer and i would recommend it to anyone who didnt really care about the reboot issue...i just dont turn off my computer anymore since my cpu idles at 36c even after a 1200MHz overclock (yes, thats 1.2Ghz :)).
i'm using a 300watt noname psu... thinking of getting an antec 350w, maybe i can get my 1.6a to be stable at 3.0Ghz since i can get into windows at 2.94Ghz but would crash in IE :P
can hit 2820 stable but wanted a nice round number ;)
at 2.94Ghz stuff starts to become more unstable (if only i had more voltage settings)...MUST HAVE MORE VOLTAGE!!!
oh...u are talking about reboot issues due to instability of the system during high FSBs...am talking about the GA-8IRXP noot rebooting when u turn off the computer...
sorry..totaly different problem i mentioned...my rig doesnt randomly reboot while i'm in the middle of something just when i...
hey duvie, i also have reboot issues while overclocking ( i thought this was just a gigabyte 8irxp issue )...could u give me details of the wire trick..my 1.6a runs at 2800MHz stable 36c idle/56c load (during prime95)... i dont think the asus board could go that far 'cause voltage settings are...
