T5500 vs T7200?

Why would one need a good graphics card in a laptop ? That's what Desktops are for. 7,200 RPM drive ? That leads me to another Q. How much more of a battery drain are 7,200 RPM drives ? I have heard they REALLY chew up the battery and add loads of heat....

installing new network card in linux

Solaris uses names similiar to the type of NIC, like Realtek is rtl0 or something like that. I think sticking to the eth0....eth9... etc make it easier to find, but to each (distro) there own.

quick repartitioning question

Mandrake can resize NTFS partitions. Boot with CD 1 as if to install, get the partitioning, resize your NTFS partition and then switch off to end the installation process. (unless you want to put Mandrake on there, which i strongly advise :) )

KDE vs Gnome for my new Mandrake Install?

xfce4 is coming along nicely. But more designed as a lightweight, super fast Desktop manager for slow old systems, many people use it on high end systems too (must reach super sonic speeds on those systems. :) )

Linux distributions

I think use Linux if your used to it :) Otherwise use Linux if batch, fast, high quality encoding is in order. If special effects are the way then may head to a Mac or Windows. Essentiall, I agree with shortylickens

yeah thanx it might be the trick. i havent had it on for a few days now and not a problem. (may have bought a 120gig HDD i didnt have too, oh well can never have enough HDD space :) ) but your "EM Fields" gave me something more to google, see what we get i would of thought though that there...

"Hidden" Hard Drive after XP Install?

yeah, diskmgmt.msc cant see hidden partitions devmgmt.msc might show it, but the only way to change it to "not" hidden that i know of, is to boot with Power Quest Drive Image and go to Tools > Hidden/Unhidden Drives there you can changes its hidden flag to "unhidden" takes all of 2 seconds.

skip to second last paragraph for my question :) i cant find anything by searching, kinda hard to get the right search phrase. I stash my inverter for my Cold cathode in the spare FDD bay with an actually FDD in the botom bay. Was having trouble with about 50-60% of floppies not working...

2x60 RAID 0 or 120gig JB?

i image my boot partition every few weeks and store the image file on my server, so thats not an a issue, but narturally i dont keep my other important files on my RAID and actually on a partition on the boot disk, so those are important, well i got the 120gig JB trying to copy the data off...

yes i think you are right, i guess i just needed confirmation i was right when i set my Maxtor RAID up i wasnt sure to go 32/32 for the video capturing i do and that i originally setup it up for or to go 16/16 for the games directory i run of it. i then said to myself i wish i could have two...

PS MSI has a cx23881 chipset based card and in contray to Prolinks site the PixelView PlayTV HD is Stereo (in Australia it is using cx23881, if using the cx23880 in the Us it still should be, check out conexants site) and it can capture at 768x576 (only res i use) rather then just 480x720 like...

agree whole heartly i had an AverMedia TV Studio (using the BT878 8-bit conexant/Brooktree chipet) and the LeadTek using the same BT878 8-bit chipset. good cards and the chipset has stood the hands of time well. but anyting using then ew CX23880/1 10-bit Conexant chipset (like the Asus card)...

delete hiberfil.sys when hibernate option doesnt exist?!?

yep ACPI uniprocessor yep, admin rights, of course and the hibernate tab wont appear, a pic to prove it its not that i want to use hibernate, its that i want to delete the hiberfil.sys file it creates. found that in safe mode its gone, so must be created upon each boot, wha ta waste of time...

i echo those comments 100% boot times ?? i as for a long time only seeing the bars crossing the screen for about 1.5 laps :) not bad, but its since slowed a bit :(

for awhile now both standby and hibernate havent be options on my system. i did a few searches all to return nothing; saying bout unticking in the Hibernate tab, but that isnt on my system. Picture to prove it :D is there any more info on this?? how XP runs this and how it turned this off...

PQ Drive Image 2002 not creating images

yeah and if you copy it to CD Drive Images makes the CD bootable so its and easy operation to re-image ya drive if you need to.

i tried ghost once awhile back and had this same trouble. it worked once, but then never again. my solution was to use PQ Drive Image :D but now trying to image a 3.5 Linux HDD PQDI isnt doing the job. i was suggested to try ghost, but one again, it only lists my HDD's as source of image...

PQ Drive Image 2002 not creating images

PQDI writes fine to NTFS partitions in my experiences though, writing the image file to the same disk (even if it is a different partiton) leads to a corupted image file. try a second HDD and all should be swell :) i have been imaging my boot partition to another HDD (all NTFS) every 2 weeks...

hmmmm maybe bad PSU ??? rails looked ok in the BIOS, but i must check with my voltmeter. well i managed to get it stable, but at a price. 1) needed PC100 ram as apposed to the PC133 RAM it had. so now running sync with FSB 2) underclock the VGA servely. downed it from 200/333 to 110/110...
