Change PSU!! Also look over your cooling. I wouldn't be comfortable with anything above 64C for 100% stability 24/7
Mine does 2.66@3.90 (FSB195) 1.5Gig Mushkin Black label&Xtreem 500MHz (Winbond BH-5 chips)
idle 36C, Full load dual prime 62C

Merom is the successor to Yonah with a better performance per watt ratio and also with added features such as Vanderpool Virtualization Technology and EM64T.
Conroe is the desktop version of Merom.
Basically the difference between Merom and Conroe is the FSB. see the numbers below...
Hi, anyone know if there will be a dualcore adapter like the ASUS CT479 that supported dothan processor? Since Core Duo and Core Solo use an FCPGA6 (478-pin) pinout (but with a diffrent pin arrangement then pentium m, centrino mobos)..should be possible!!
It also means that you probably have the 14 multi option ;) You will notice a huge performance boost just by running 14*243= 3.4Gig instead of the default 17*200=3.4Gig
How about Abit AS8? LGA775 + 865PE

looks like a killer mobo to me!!!! only minus, there is no Gigabit LAN chip onboard (P5P800 got it) BUT there is SATA RAID support ;)..anyway seems like...
Not sure what is holding your northy back but 3.6 is pretty good though! With vapo i've seen 3.0C@4.0...If its worth the upgrade is hard to say...I noticed major performance
increase going from northwood to prescott mainly in heavy-duty multitasking sessions (increased multitasking abilities)...
lol yeah i agree...but i think that the lock free was implemented by intel and not by the mobo makers...they knew that it run hot and s478 was not really made for prescott..so all the mobo makers would have to redo the powerdesign specifikations but it would be to costly so instead they moved...
Yes lock free works with s478 also. Here is a breakdown of which ones work.
3.2 SL7B8 C0 stepping. works
3.2 D0 stepping does not work
3.2 E0 To few reports to draw any conclusion..most likely Dell got a bunch of s478 E0's as they are very had to find in a retailshop....
3.4 D0 some...
water cooling will not help much if you are planning to max out the @presshot running the whole system with 18 on the 12v :D seriously, 18 on the 12v for a full @system rig with a 6600gt won't cut it for any higher stable oc....
Here is a better psu (Dual 12V total 30A) for your system that's...
Sure the idea is not new but have anyone actually done it before?? don't think so...lol yeah i remember there was one guy who placed the whole mobo inside the fridge but that didnt work due to condensation. Anyway nice to see that it can be done! I know some have placed the watertank inside the...
Your mobo idle (31C) are a tad high..my is ~26 (room : 23C) room temp influence cpu/mobo temps a lot. look over your mobo temps case ventalation Thermally advantaged chassis
I've ownend 6northwoods (1.8-3.2ghz)and 3 prescotts (2.4-3.2ghz) even though prescott can operate at a higher temp...
you get multiple comparisons, compare URLs, ORB, detail scores for cpu..vga..hdd and so on. i have the free version. you can click on the details tab and see what scores are left out.
P5GD2 Deluxe only supports DDR2.
If you want both DDR&DDR2 you have P5GDC-V Deluxe (915G chipset). If you only need DDR then there is P5GD1-VM (915G chipset)
With the P5P800 (865PE chipset) you have DDR but with the new LGA775 socket (no PCI Express though).
Enable xp sp2 built in firewall for them then! Its not all that bad imo. filtering options on outgoing connections are lacking to say the least , incoming filtering is pretty solid! All in all as a basic desktop firewall its pretty ok.
Take a look at this pageHDD slowdown when booting
Check startup progs also ...go to start > run > msconfig disabel stuff you don't recognize...

no cold boot failure but i did get reboots evry 3-4 hours AND this was not load dependent i could get the reboots at idle as well. Eg. I could run stable for 4hours without rebooting with heavy load. and then next moment when the computer is idling it rebooted ..lol..but testing ocz510 solved...
My take,
It's not so much thermenal improvements as PWM circuitry improvements on LGA775 based board . Thats why only a few s478 mobos cut it, when overclocking HIGH (250+fsb) with prescotts ;)
As far as psu goes. running default you dont need so powerful psu....but if you overclock then...
I think its you'r psu that can't deliver sustainend current to the system. Easiest way to find out is ofcourse if you can borrow one from a friend or computer shop...I had similar problem with my system initially when i hit 4gig, my friend borrowed me his brand new ocz510w and Voila! i was...
Your mobo will be fine! If you attempt to overclock to 4gig make sure you sink the mosfets (specially around the powerplant area)
Let us know how it goes G-Luck! :)
Your cpu rules!!! Its not your chip its the board...max3 has weaker powerplant then ex. max2 and can simply not handle high oc with power hungry prescotts... You can fix that with mods though but you risk of loosing the board then....
