If you're not going to game at all and need a very portable laptop, I suggest you take a look at the iBooks, especially the 12" since it's so cheap right now. You can also use the promotion to get a very cheap iPod (which you can sell afterwards to sweeten the deal). The only downside that I can...

Powerbook 12" or 15"?

12" because portability is a must for a laptop and buy a nice LCD to go with it if you plan to use it for long periods of time at your desk. You'll have more screen estate that way when working at home and better portability!

Recomend a College Laptop

I'll myself go for a 12" iBook! Small, portable, good battery life, OSX, one of the best bang for the buck! The 12" PB is a bastardised powerbook as it has much more similarities with the iBooks than the Powerbooks, therefore I can't see why it's so much more expensive than the iBooks!

That HP looks nice but we only have the dv1240CA model available here in Canada and it's said (on HP's website) that it weights a whooping 9.38 lbs!!!!!! That's not something that I want to carry around all the time!

Here's an update! I've plugged my speakers to hear what the vocal POST thing on my Asus motherboard had to say since I couldn't hear any beeps after clearing the CMOS. I've tried both my old and my new stick in all three slots and it always say that System failed memory test. Like I said...

My sister's computer uses SDRAM (100 mhz), my father is on RAMBUs and I'm the only one on DDR... I'd be really surprised if both sticks went dead at the same time, my guess is a fried motherboard too!

I can't do anything, it powers up, I see the lights comming on, it's searching the HDD and I get no screen, only that beep sound. It's a long beep, then a pause, then the long beep which means according to the manual that no RAM is installed... Tried everything I could and nothing works...

News flash: after further inspection, I found a small piece of a chip (and it's not the RAM because the sticks are pristine) in the bottom of my case... Let's transfer this to what can I buy for the least money to get my computer up and running. I currently have P4 1.6a, a GeForce 3 (64 megs)...

*Problem solved*

I've tried with NHL 2004 and it does the same thing. Everything's fine, I get to see all the menus but as soon as there is some 3d the game crashes. I guess it's not the monitor that's causing the problem but the video card. I'll try to see if I can fix the problem by checking the connections...
