720p TV Claims to Have a 1080p Native Display?

Probably because it made it easier to scale to 4:3 PC resolutions - 768 vertical is to match the PC resolution of 1024x768. Or because it was cheaper to manufacture than even 720p. Or both.

23" Monitor at ~5' - will BR be noticeable?

Better colors? Doubt it. To save space, both DVD and Bluray videos are encoded in the 4:2:0 color space which is far off from broadcast quality (4:2:2) or uncompressed (4:4:4). Although some "home made" DVDs are actually 4:1:1 due to being filmed on a DVCam.

Encode PC Games to AC3 into SPDIF passthrough?!

Sorry - don't think you can do this without a dedicated card the supports Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect, such as the Auzentech Prelude 7.1, etc. Basically these soundcards convert your audio into a 640kbits (DD) / 1.5mbits (DTS) 5.1 stream that feeds into your receiver.

Weird issue with TV - any suggestions?

HD fraud?

As a part time filmmaker I have to say that unfortunately, any camera under $10k won't get you close to 720p resolution. We used to use Sony Z1s for shooting (pro version of the FX1) and while it said 1080i, based on tests, the actual effective resolution of these cams during motion were about...

Bob - you're not missing much. Switching between the Lossless codecs and the lossy ones I can't tell any difference through my speakers. IMO the largest improvement was from low bitrate DD/DTS (~384kbits for DD and 768kbits for DTS) to full bitrate DD and DTS (640kbits for DD and 1536kbits...

Also, while it may not be a dealbreaker for you, both cards output audio via HDMI differently. The Radeon does bitstream DTSMA, DolbyTruHD, The Geforce does 7.1 LPCM over HDMI - and not bitstream. If you're deciding to put any of these cards thru a receiver, the radeon is the better...

Q9550 stock temperatures -- reseat heatsink/fan?

Can't you just get a RCA to 3.5mm adapter? Something like this? Link That's what I did in college in order to watch TV while roomie was asleep - audio quality was meh but since it was analog cable, I had no complaints.

CPU is a little on the slow side - might want to consider upgrading that to a faster C2D or even a C2Q. Do not get another 8800GTS as it'll still be limited to 640MB of RAM and it's slower than say a single 260 216c / 4870 / 4890, etc. Not to mention the added complications of having SLI...

It's just a 3gp file, but renamed. Kind of like how .mp4 files (AAC) were renamed to .m4a for Apple products. You will need some kind of h.264 codec to play these files.
