HELP: Cutting plexiglass.

If you use a jigsaw, get a fine blade for it and like said above, go slow. Like said above, tape the glass and the saw so the friction doesn't wear the glass. Works great for me and I'm kind of an all-thumbs modder.

Overclocking issue with the 2500+

Why don't you try moving up in 5 mhz steps? A lot of systems don't take well to being pulled straight up to 200. Anyway you might give it a try. Maybe also set your timings to expert and 2.5 3 3 11 which is kind of standard relaxed timings for overclocking and then tighten them up later...

Fry's is coming to Oxnard

Oxnard has a lot of higher end housing now; the colonia is still there but overall I think it's a pretty nice city. Lots safer than say Long Beach. I'll be coming all the way down from Santa Maria and that's 90 miles but it's worth it! Thanks for the news.

Overclocking an AMD 2400+Athlon Xp

CPU fried?

Yeah, it's probably installed right, but we all make mistakes - is it hot to the touch? That seems kind of high to me for an amd processor also; no offense at your install, things go wrong. But did the hsf seem hot? The exhaust? Was the fan on the right way? Believe me, I do so many dumb...

noob q: radeon mobility: shared memory?

This is for a student of mine who has a laptop; I've never owned one. He wants to know if his radeon mobility video chip shares system memory. I googled it and got differing results so I got lazy and ran here. He wants to know if he can expand or reduce the memory he shares if it does share...

You can also use heavier threaded screws and screw the fan into your hs; that is what I do on thermalrights and it seems a lot more secure than tying the fan or those nasty tiny wire things thermalright uses on your cpu hs's. Just get some screws a tinier bit bigger than your fins and screw 'em...

Power supply question

You could tie them off and shove them behind the psu or on top. Or next time you're taking out your mobo, route them behind that. But I agree, cut 'em off and you'll want 'em.

Is the 12V PSU plug really necessary to boot?

Folks seem to have nasty issues once in a while o/clocking without it; but I run 2 8rda+'s that don't require it and they overclock just fine by me.

I have a theory why my 2500xp is being stubborn

Don't know if your mobo has the "ultra 400" fsb but not all nforce-2 boards make 200 fsb. Also you might try 2.5-3-3-11 on your memory or even run it asynchronously, like at 80%, to make sure it's not the bottleneck. I have an epox board that will NEVER make 200 fsb and lots of other folks...

DFI or ABIT

I have a new/used nf7-s v.2.0 sitting at my elbow as I type waiting to be installed. I had the same questions but a lot of folks here and on other forums told me I would have better luck stability-wise with this board; was severely tempted though with the dfi voltage options. Hmm, a nice vdimm...

Any reason to get the ABIT NF7-S instead of the DFI NFII Ultra Infinity?

I add fans to n/bridges to avoid overheating when I overclock, so guess everyone's needs are different - the abit fan was a plus for me. Is the zalman as effective as a stock h/s -fan combo? Assuming redscare05 is planning to overclock.

Should I paint my case?

You can paint it with enamel if youwant, just get the right primer that works for plastic and painted surfaces. Depending on your skill and patience it will turn out better than krylon fusion.

What should I do with my 2400+?

Is this a tbred b or a mobile? If it's a tbred b, a lot of them top out at 2.2-2.3, some do better, it's still a good overclock but 12-15% is what you're looking at. I see these running used for the price of barton locked 2500's on the f/sale forums since a lot of boards top out at tbreds or...

how important is northbridge fan?

I'm with biglar on this; overclocking, use a fan. And passive s/bridge cooling so you won't get messed up issues there.

Need BIOS help: crashing with NF7-S, Buffalo 3200 x 2, AMD 2100+

You might even drop it down to 2.7 on the memory; the internal voltage regulator kicks in around there and anything higher just gets wasted as heat unless you volt it up to over 3.0 which I wouldn't do. I would try each stick separately also to rule out a bad stick. Also maybe try single...

AMD xp 2500+ mobile or regular 2500+

Eventually you'll upgrade. If you upgrade your memory, even better. Sell/part the whole system and a mobile will sell faster if you go btx/pci express in a year or two. You have more options with the mobile. Mobile = better yes?

Overclocking with XP-1700 T-Bread "B" / Is this good, or should it do more

Run it there a month and then try pushing the multi up a notch again. Bump the voltage to 1.8 of course. I never had a rev 1 8rda+ but I have 2 rev 1.1's and I hope you can go even further and have more fun!

good 1700 OC ?

There's a big difference between tbred a, tbred b dlt3c, trbed b dut3c, etc. and individual processors so don't feel bad. I'm getting 2352 on my 1700+ dlt3c 24/7 @45degrees on an old sk-7, panaflo H, 8rda+ which tops out at 195 fsb. But it took a while and I got really lucky. Some folks got...

thetman, my board reports the vdimm not the 3.3v on mbm5 and I think on aida; can't remember exactly with the latter. You running an epox? Either way that looks like a dmm voltage maybe.

Paid more to go slower, doesn't that suck

I had my 2400+ Tbred B (at 2.25 ) until I got a 2500+ barton. At stock I noticed a nice difference with the barton on lots of app's thanks to the L2 cache. You will eventually be glad.

Where to buy acetone?

You can get nail polish remover; try to get the kind with very few additives and then clean it with alcohol. I think it works a lot faster on those nasty nasty pad residues; for thermal grease I just go with alcohol.

Need a little help tweaking my bios on a NF7-S

I don't have that motherboard; only thing I would do is set fastwrites to disabled (works better for me) and set agp aperture size to 128. I admire your memory timings! Nice job all around.

How much jump from dual channel ram

Second that single 512, I've got one that's just waiting for a little friend - then I'll go dual channel. It's not a big deal, though, but your fsb o/clock is a LITTLE less with dual channel although overall performance is better slightly. You just don't have quite the same bragging rights in...

Another Tbred/Barton question.

I have 2 8rda+ motherboards - one has an unlocked nonmobile 2500+, the other one has an xp1700+. Both running at 2.3 - 2.35. To be honest I wouldn't upgrade for a really big performance boost. These unlocked mobiles seem to get the most bang for their buck from fsb increases; your ddr333 will...
