I'm still on LGA775 too. I plan to start grabbing non-inflated parts first (case, PSU, OS license, SSD, Ryzen 2 CPU/mobo) and cross my fingers that GPUs and RAM will be dropping again when I finally get to those.

Q8300. How important is ram speed? And other questions.

I'm still gaming on an LGA775 system with 8gb of DDR2-800, and an overclocked HD6850 GPU, at 1280x800 on the newer games. My CPU is an E5450 overclocked to 3.6ghz (picked it up for just $15 on ebay!), so it doesn't get much better than this on LGA775. Note it requires a little bit of mobo...

Yep. Also many of them from that era have failed thermal paste on the CPU; it is old and dry and cracked, and there's mostly air between the heatsink and the CPU. If you pull the heatsink off and it looks like it didn't have full contact with the CPU, a copper shim may be in order. You can get...

Looking for CPU buying advice for render jobs

Is the (raw performance) of Core2 Duo/Quad still viable?

Absolutely a concern. I just ran into this on a Compaq laptop with a Celeron 900mhz, which has an 800mhz FSB. It would not POST with a 1066mhz CPU, even with the latest BIOS.

Q9300... it has seen better days.

I'm wondering if this is your problem right here. Before WDM video drivers came along, I almost always got choppy scrolling with the generic video drivers--no matter the video card, or Windows version. WDM drivers have somewhat solved this it seems, as I don't notice the choppy scrolling as much...

What is a good deodorent?

I like Old Spice Classic, at least I think that's what it's called. Not anti-perspirant, blue, comes in a stick. In my experience, it lasts longer than most, irritates my skin less, and women like the smell of it :)
