Current P4s and Hyperthreading.

Do the current line of northwoods support hyperthreading, once its introduced? I was reading that my motherboard (P4B533) will support it with a bios flash. I have a 1.6a. With the flash, will my cpu support it as well, or are they only rolling it out with the 3ghz+ p4s? Thanks for any help.

P4 Temp Q's

No, the more voltage and the higher you overclock it the hotter it will get. sorry, i wasnt clear. what i was trying to ask is, will a 1.6 @ 1.7v run at roughly the same temps as a 2.53 @ 1.7v?

Do all northwoods run around the same temps at any given voltage? I ask this, because I've seen quite a few people who opt to not use the stock hs/fan. I know that p4s run very cool compared to athlon xps, and ive never seen one get anywhere close to their danger point. so why exactly do...

P4S533.. startup problems.

A person I know is trying to get his new p4 system up and running. He has the P4S533 motherboard and a p4 1.8a. When he tries to boot the computer up, it will allow him to boot into the cmos, but not past that point. It tells him there is no cpu installed. If he takes the cpu out and tries...

How quiet is fan from Intel retail boxed CPU?

You wont need a better fan to reach your computers max overclock. The intel fan is very quiet.

OEM P4's any good?

Right now, idle, my cpu is 30c and my mb is 24c. Its a little cool in this room right now though (about 68). Usually its 32/26. Under load it gets up to around 45-47c. P4s are safe up to very high temperatures. Though yours does run cooler, that doesnt mean its performance is any better...

eh, i dont think thats true. i have my 1.6 running @ 2.5 with the retail hs/fan. almost 1 ghz with that is more than small ocing in my opinion.

What is the normal range of Vcore fluctuation?

Thats normal. I have a P4B533 and it fluxuates from 1.63 to 1.69. Dont sweat it.

p4 1.8a o/c to 2.7 ..need extra cooling ??

Im not sure about the 1.8s, but in order to get into the temperature danger zone for the 1.6's, you have to have your vcore at completely unsafe levels. So, your cpu would fry out from the vcore increase before you would ever have to worry about your temperature being too high. At 1.6 vcore...

What is your current CPU temp? You probably dont need a new fan or heatsink. P4s dont get very hot.

Floppy Drive not responding?

My floppy drive is detected just fine by my bios (at least i figure it is, i dont get a post error) and windows, but i cant seem to get it to read any disks. It doesnt light up either when starting my computer. If I boot up with a non-system disk in the drive, it boots into windows like there...

1.6 stable @ 2.51 - On to Memory...

Well, damn. That was easy enough. Its now running at int-3035 float-3032. Is that good for corsair 3200 xms 2.5? Thanks so much for your help.

"Crossing over" to P4, need help picking out P4 mobo for OCing.

Im running a P4B533 and have no complaints about it so far. It tends to be the most popular mb on this board to overclock with, with the -v model being the top choice. If you want to get the maximum potential out of your setup, youll probably want something faster than 2100.

P4s533 overclock - major voltage drop under load

Thats not a bad voltage drop. I have the Antec true 430 and I get about the same. Right now idle, my voltage is at 1.7v, and under load it can get as low as 1.63. Dont worry about it. From what I've heard though, 1.74v is pushing it. You might want to lower your voltage to 1.575 to play it...
