    thanks for the reply ;) I did some searches and see that someone else reported issues with their system that was similar... appears to be a weird bug with ATI vid cards... but xubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) seems to work fine... downloading as I type ;) Will report back either way ;)

    Formatting software for multiple HDs

    I ended up using two programs to do what I needed: SyncBack and Robotask Got robotask to automate formating the thumbdrives, and SyncBack to write the files in parallel to the thumbdrives. I was also able to write to 25 thumbdrives simultaneously!

    Thanks for all the help... and Scott... it was a never ending pile of thumbdrives! I ended up having to reformat the system as any USB device was causing issues. The same had to be done to my partner's computer... that's what you get with a total of 9,000 usb thumbdrives.

    Yes, it is the NIC that keeps crashing. It stops working after about 5-10 minutes, and even the light in the back of the NIC goes off. I'll do a BOIS update just to be sure as well.

    No errors I can see in Device Manager that I noticed, but I will look again. Both XP and Win2K were MS cd's and not restore cd's. I did download the proper drivers for the laptop, and the IBM driver software program (it automatically detects which drivers are needed and downloads them)...
