104 F is not that hot. It's actually a little better than average. Install the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers, and graphics card drivers.
DRIVER PROBLEMS CAUSE THE MOST TROUBLE!, at least in my opinion.
Get the Gigabyte board, you won't be sorry.
Get the VRXP, not the VRX.
The rev 2.0 boards are usually MUCH better than the rev 1.0 boards.
I'd wait for the rev 2.0 board. (bugs will be ironed out)
An example of this is the difference between the 7ZXR rev 1.0 and the 2.0.:D
That is a crap PC Chips brand motherboard.
The chipset is even slower than the original Intel VX!
IT IS NOT AN INTEL CHIPSET!
Your K6-2s days will be numbered at that voltage.
Find more info on it at www.redhill.net.au
My old Gigabyte board does have good post features, and is very stable. I havent crashed in 3 months!
The old board I am talking about is the GA-7ZXR rev 2.2 (KT133a board)
No thermal protection on the Gigabyte.
The Gigabyte does have other nice features though. (USB 2.0, Raid, Dual BIOS)
It would be very rare for the heatsink to fall off, so I think the thermal protection is not really a requirement,
Although, it is nice to have.
WARNING: Stay away from PC-Chips!!!
They have been known in the past to make boards with fake cache chips! (this was in 1995, the heyday of the 486 DX 100, and the 5x86)
The mobos based on the VIA Pro Savage KM 266 look cool. They usually have an AGP slot (very important :-) ) and around 3 PCI...
Swap out all of your cables, IDE, floppy, ect.
Make sure they are inserted correctly.
Check your standoffs, they have been known to short.
Try another PSU
This junk happens to the best of us, stay cool.
Try the "Core Component Test", Start the computer with just these 5 items: PSU, Motherboard, CPU, RAM, and graphics card.
If it doesnt stert with that, you have a problem.
Also, IDE cables can go bad very easily.
I am currently running an Athlon 1gig OC to 1.4gig on a KT 133a based motherboard. (Ga-7ZXR rev2.2)
How much faster will my PC be if I get a KT 333 based mobo and some PC 2700 ram?
Im thinking around 25%, but I need some more input.:D
Summer is upgrading and computer selling season for me.
