Using outdated hardware, why do new games look worse than old ones?

In a more general sense, the developers aren't optimizing image quality for the low end, because it's the high-end sexiness that drives good reviews which leads to sales.

chizow - Good to know. I remembered Dell's delivery dates to be a bit conservative. My order is still in, so hopefully it will ship soon. All my other stuff arrived 3 days after ordering from newegg (via standard shipping), so I'm just waiting for the GTX 285 now.

I got the BFG GTX285 OC2, but I just received an email from Dell saying it has been delayed to May 5th. It was in stock when I ordered it, but not anymore. Anyone else get delayed?

The P182 also has an external fan speed control. I don't think the switch on the P180 can be accessed externally.

GTX285 when?

Edit: I noticed that most of the GTX 285's on newegg are incorrectly listed as requiring a 6 and 8 pin connector. The photos (if accurate) all show 2 6 pin connectors.

Safe overclocking voltage for a 1.8A Northwood???

Intel's datasheet says 1.75 V max, but Intel is also very conservative. For temperature, the general rule of thumb is that every 10 C increase halves the life of the processor. (They use this for accelerated failure testing to estimate MTBF which they run near 150 C).

I downloaded Samsung's ddr datasheet a few days ago and they are rated from 2.3 - 2.7 V. Since that rating is at the process corners (70+ C, jittery clock / power supply, etc...), and since they should be fairly conservative with their ratings, I would think 2.8 shouldn't be a problem. I'm...

Better Overclocker? P4 2.2A vs. P4 2.26

At 16x to 24x multipliers, the p4's are limited by their internal clock before they are limited by the FSB clock. So, generally, you want to have a lower multiplier so you can run the FSB as fast as possible when the processor hits it's upper limit (say 2.8 Ghz on Thugsrook's aircooled rig)...

Need help - VCore won't change on 4BDA?

I just put together my new 1.6A system, and everything runs fine at 2.14. I need to increase the voltage to overclock further, but when I change the VCore in the bios, it doesn't seem to work. The POST screen still shows 1.49V, even though I set it to 1.65. What am I doing wrong? Here's the...

The EPoX 4G4A+ seems very promising.

cobrasvt: Can you confirm that a 4400/4600 will fit unobstructed in the AGP slot? This shouldn't be a problem, but I just wanted to make sure since a few of the cheaper motherboards had issues. It's also now listed at NewEgg for $133, but is not in stock yet.

Oldfart: You stole the words right out of my mouth. :) I really doubt EPoX would produce a board that didn't overclock well. That's their key brand image. Why bother to put a PCI/AGP lock and flexible memory ratios on a board that won't overclock? I suspect the onboard voltage regulator...

best P4 overclocker?

Just fyi, for those new to the topic. The Northwood core is the first P4 core manufactured on the 0.13 um process, and therefore run much cooler, which is why they are such great overclocking candidates.
