Why does XPP have a default of 45 days on the login password?

I use ZoneAlarm, Adaware, and Norton Antivirus for security. I don't believe a Windows password is going to help me at all. There are a number of ways to get around the password. The thing I do is make sure there isn't anything on my drive that I don't have backed up or care about that...

Why does XPP have a default of 45 days on the login password?

Something came up a few months back that XP Pro would timeout on the login password for a user. Why does Microsoft have a stupid default of 45 days? I looked all over for a solution back then and later found it was so easy to fix, but it was too late.

80GB, 7200rpm drive w/8MB buffer. Which one?

I had a 20 gb and a 40 gb Maxtor go bad on me this year and found several other people that had bad experiences with Maxtor. I don't think Maxtor is putting out quality hard drives like they once did. I recommend getting a Seagate or WD.

That's one of the first things that I did. I think the board is bad because I tried a good ram, a good cpu and another video card. It still wouldn't boot.

Keeping my athlon cool?

I've heard the OCZ Quicksilver is a good thermal paste to use. I have Artic Alumina on my XP, and it does ok.

Blow hole??

It's easy to mess up your case making blow holes. I'd recommend only putting one fan in if you've never cut holes in your case before. It might be difficult to get the holes to line up with each other.

Another temperature question...53C too much?

My system temp is usually under 35 C, but I don't even have one case fan in the system. As for thermal compound, I hear OCZ's Quicksilver is supposed to be pretty good. Someone also told me that Artic Silver II is better than III. There are lots of opinions on what is the best out there...

What OS should I run on this older system??

I'd say win98se because there are some apps and games that wont run on win2k and sometimes win2k drivers are hard to find for older hardware.

I have an Athlon XP 1700+ with a Coolermaster HHC-001. The cpu temp is usually 40-43C with no case fans. The downside is that it has a 7000 rpm fan that is very noisy. The more rpms your fan has the more noise it will probably have. Also, I am using Artic Alumina for the thermal compound...
