Man this thread is awesome! This is exactly the information I've been looking for. I've been planning out my next rig and this is the combo I'm looking to buy at the moment. As far as the memory goes though I really like the looks of that Crucial Ballistix and it seems to be a great deal. On...
I can run stable at 247 FSB with a vCore of 1.600 with PAT/PAM and PM enabled, that is if you consider 12 hours of Prime 95 stable.
I just can't go above 247 without moving the vCore all the way up to 1.7. At 1.7 I'm stable at 250 (and maybe at little higher, but 255 was a no go), I'm just...
It doesn't appear that I'm going to get any higher than 250 FSB so I am just gonna back off to 248 and drop the vCore back down to a normal 1.6v. The extra 25 MHz isn't worth the risk of losing my chip due to voltage wackiness. I wonder how much higher these boards would go if the voltage were...
Well this stinks. My system seems completely stable at 1.7v at 250 FSB. I'm guessing it's because the voltage never drops below 1.6v, it's the 1.728 at idle that scares me. :frown:
Anyone here tried the "droop mod" to stabilize the voltage?
Okay next question. How much vCore is safe on these processors? I see what you guys are talking about with the drops in voltage if you up it. I'm still testing 250 FSB but I'm at 1.7 now. That's the only voltage that doesn't drop below 1.6 when under load. So far I'm stable but I'm letting...
Hi Everyone,
I'm using the following settings since they are defaults for my memory and I just started overclocking, but I have a couple of questions.
Configure DRAM Timing by SPC. . . . . . .[Disabled]
DRAM CAS# Latency. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.5
DRAM RAS# Precharge . . . . . . . . . ...
I am running my P4B533-V at 163 FSB right now at 1.65V. So far it's stable, I've been running Prime95 for about 12 hours now. I'm running the memory at 2.7V and the AGP card at default.
Sandra scores at little bit over 3100 at 2.5/3/3/6. My CPU Temp is about 2 degrees over anything else...
Finally! I figured out my temp problems. I just need to add some more airflow to my case. I had a feeling it was case temp related. So I put a fan in the side of the case right on top of where the Alpha sits. Now I'm maxxing out at 53 C in Prime95. That still a bit warmer than you...
Well having the fan sucking or blowing on the Alpha doesn't make any difference for me I still get the same temps...maybe even a little worse with it sucking.
Actually I have the Sunon blowing onto the Alpha. I'll switch it around and try that. I have 2 case fans, one in front pulling air into the case and one in the back exhausting air. The are the fans that came with the case, I'm not sure what brand they are or what they are rated at.
Thanks...
Well I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I removed the Alpha HSF and reset it with a very thin layer of AS3 as smooth as I could get it. What a pain this thing is to take on and off.
I thought I was all set. For the first few minutes it was maxxing at 51 - 52, but after like 10 mins it slowly...
Naah that didn't work either. I set everything to Ignore in the BIOS and shut off ASUS Probe, but it continues to beep. I guess I'll just stick with 163 or 164, I seem to be stable at those speeds with a max temp of 60 C.
Well Prime 95 ran for 6 hours before it failed at 166 FSB! And I can't raise the vcore anymore without it beeping. It doesn't matter what I set to Ignore in the Bios it just keeps beeping. I suppose I could disconnect the speaker, but it just bothers me knowing that it's beeping if I can't...
I raised the DIMM Voltage to 2.7 and that seems to have done the trick for now. I'm stable at 163. I'll push it back to 166 and see how it goes. If that don't work I'll try what you said Joker and then raise the Vcore.
Thanks guys!
Okay at 165 I was having trouble getting through 3dmark and Prime95 finally failed after about 1/2 hour.
So now I'm at 164 FSB, here are the scores:
2624 MHz @ 1.7 Volts with DDR 410 @ 2.65 Volts
VisionTek GF4 Ti4400 @ 290/640 -- Default Voltage
3DMark2001 SE Build 330 -- 12224
Sandra Memory...
Okay motherboard wierdness at 166 FSB. I upped the voltage to 1.750 and when I booted it was beeping like crazy. According to the manual that means the processor is too hot, but ASUS probe was only showing 50. So I rebooted and lowered the voltage to 1.725, it still beeps but not as much...
Wow! As I post this message I'm running 166 FSB with 4:5 divider. :Q Sandra Memory scores are 3161/3164. That's with Norton AV running at the same time, which I believe slows down the Benchmark.
Prime 95 failed after about 5 minutes. I'll up the voltage and see if I can get stable. Right...
Ahh...sweet. I've put AS3 on everything else why not that? :D
The northbridge had a thermal pad and a foam spacer around it. What a pain that was to get off. But it runs nice and cool now. :)
Thanks man!
Okay I got my P4B533-V up and running finally.
Right now I'm I'm running my 1.6A at 160 FSB with the 4:5 Memory Divider which puts me at DDR 400. Woohoo! It's rock solid at this speed too. Ran Prime 95 for about 12 hours.
My Vcore is set to 1.700 in the bios but fluctuates between 1.664...
Well Joker, you've changed my mind. I just ordered this new board from Memory Media. I really like the fact that you didn't have to up the voltage on the memory and the overvolting on the Proc. This time I paid for overnight shipping though... I can't stand to wait another week before I get...
My Processor and Ram showed up today!
The 1.6A is a pack date of 4/30/02 from Batch# 7210A510, but how do you know where it was packaged?
Also please post as much info as you can on the Asus P4B533-V. My motherboard doesn't arrive until Thursday from Googlegear (BG7) so I may return it...
Well I have been pondering my motherboard for about 2 to 3 weeks now. Waiting to see which one I liked the best. Of course you would go and post something like that right after I order. :P
That does sound like a sweet board though. Who knows maybe someone will get one in time to test it...
Well I've taken the plunge. Thanks for all the hard work and great posts guys. Here's my order:
ABIT BG7
P4 1.6A
1x512 Samsung PC2700 (from Newegg) they just got some in for $121.00 :D
Antec True Power 550W
Alpha PAL8942 w/ Sunnon 32dB fan
VisionTek GF4 TI4400
