Video Editing- FAT32 or NTFS?

Use NTFS. Fat32, if i'm correct, will have a file size limitation on your capture file. Also, if you format the drive with a good cluster size you'll have great performance and wont see any dropped frames.

Reinstall of W2K - just system files or will it rewrite everything?

As far as my memory serves, choosing to upgrade your current installed version of Windows during setup *WILL* overwrite all your settings in Windows. I believe it creates a new registry.

STOP ERRORS ON WINDOWS INSTALL

A couple of things to try. 1) Fdisk and Format the Hard drive with a Windows boot disk instead of XP - Just to see if, during the format, there are any problems... i.e. lockups, bad sectors. Windows XP hides these things :) 2) Make sure that the hard drive is properly setup in BIOS. 3) Open...

Upgrading from win98 FE to SE

You could rename C:\Windows\win.com to C:\Windows\win.co_ and then run setup again. I've done that so many times and it's seemed to work on all of the older 9x OS.

Sounds like Windows XP installation found a piece of hardware it doesn't like. Here are some things to try: (in no order) - Try pulling all your cards out of the computer expect for the video card. - Set your BIOS options to default or fail safe.

Win 2k Service Pack 2 and my weird experiences.

Service Pack 2 does have some issues for me. One, for instance, was a DNS update issue at login. Fixed it. As far as bloat goes, I didn't run into that prob. Nor the Office 2000 prob. My server is a dual P3 800 with 1gb ram. Maybe more memory would help?

how do i make icq start up only in my admin level account (XP)

You can remove it from the startup menu and/or the 'run' statement in the registry and then place a shortcut in the Administrator \programs\startup folder. I think you could also remove it using 'msconfig'.

98SE or XPhome ?

No and Yes. :) You can switch things off, such as non-critical services, in XP so that you gain back critical memory and security but it's still a pig compaired to 98se. There are plenty of resources on the Web that will recommend what services can be turned on/off and what they are used for...

My two cents. "older" games, esp those that run in DOS, I found run a whole lot better in 98se then XP/2K. There have been some posts i've read everywhere, and in my own opinion :), even when running old programs in "compatability mode" there not as responsive as they were with 98se. Mouse...
