I have the best buy seagate and the model number on the actual unit is ST31000340AS(ST310005N1A1AS-RK on the box) so asuming ST1000340AS-RK is a typo as I can't find this on segates website I would say they are the same drive.

well i purchased 2 120 gb oem maxtor SATA drives from from a popular houston area vendor last week, they were listed as having a one year warranty on the web but a serial number lookup shows they have 3 year warranties. im thinking of taking back a 200 gb ide maxtor i have still unopend to frys...

none. i've burned over 4000 cds with my 8x4x32 plexor and it was still burning like brand new up until i replaced it a couple of months ago with my 24x lite-on, which i have about 300-400 burns on already.

I just purchased one of these yesterday and it was silent, and now all of a sudden its makeing a hideous noise i can only decribe as a scrapping noise at start up of my ipaq and anytime its accessed this can't be normal can it?

Yeah they are speedy alright but they sent me an MCSD certs training kit intead of my explorer mouse and then the dumb arse airbourne express guy before I can walk 5 feet(i kid you not)to the door to open it, just leaves it there in an apartment complex.. sigh
