I was once a Norton 2001 user but switched to PC-Cillin 2002. Although I can't find much the difference, I still use its Rescue Disks occassionally, and its SystemWorks frequently. AVG seem also good am still using it in one of my PC.
It will not harm running the Rescue Disk. I run it occasionally in my PC, though I use Norton Rescue Disk and PC-Cillin 2002 as my resident AV. Also, did you ticked HEAL when the AVG resident notice pops-up?
I have used RESCUE DISKS (in floppies) in another PC without installing the AV. I think these Rescue disks can be recorded in CD's and use as it is, though it cannot be updated.
