How 2 boot from CD to copy files from hard drive

My friend has an old XP machine that is set up so that you can't copy files off to a flash drive. I am thinking you need a bootable CD that would then allow you to copy files off and unblock the USB ports. I have an original XP cd but won't this just go into setup? I am assuming there...

Vista 32bit to Win7 64 bit?

You can not upgrade 32bit to 64bit directly and keep your programs and settings. If you have Vista 32bit installed, you can use the 64bit Windows 7 DVD to do an upgrade but it will be doing it like a clean install and your old installation will be wiped out.

Photoshop would be the software but depending on the condition of the originals, it could be a huge job. It takes a lot of skill to get great results. It is a time consuming task.

DL-DVD burning is not working...

What brand of DL media are you using and what speed are you burning? I have found the best results I have gotten is using Verbatim media and burning no more than 4X on any drive I have used.

PerfectDisk & Windows 7 boot time defrag

I got it to work even easier. First I had to start PerfectDisk using Run as Administrator. Then, there is a support tab where it lists problems it finds with your installation and there is a tab to Fix It. I clicked that and it took care of the problem. I don't have the program on this...

Nothing really old. Her printer is a cheapo Canon I believe. She uses it so rarely that when it is time for ink, it is usually cheaper just to replace whatever printer she has. She is getting 64bit!!!!!!

Keyboard/Mouse Suggestions????

I personally love the Logitech pro 2800. It comes with the Logitech MX620 mouse. Don't know if it will fit your requirement of silent keyboard though. Its not super loud but I wouldn't consider it silent. Newegg has it but it can be had for less if you look around.

SMART errors

At the firs sign of hard drive problems, I replace the drive. It's much easier and cheaper to replace a drive while it is still working then to have it fail and have to go into data recovery mode. If SMART is giving you errors, I think you are probably safe to assume the drive is starting to...

Good External Hard Drive?

You are probably better off making your own. There are many good enclosures out there and you can pair it with most internal drives. I may not be the cheapest way to go but you are assured of a higher quality product.
