Asus p2b & 40 gig hd

your best bet would be to get a pci ata100/133 card so you can get full use of the hard drive without using drive management software. The card usually runs around $20.00US.

K7S5A onboard sound

Help me decide - ECS K7S5A/Duron 1.1 or Gigabyte GA6OXT-A/Celeron 1.1

I have to go against the masses here. I suggest you do a little more research using anandtech and tom's hardware, etc... Though most of you have had luck with this board there are just as many if not more who have not. Checkout all of the problrms with this board in the knowledgebase at ECS...

Are you letting the bios auto detect the cd-rom and the hard drive? If not let it auto detect, if so then setup your drive perameters in the bios. Do you have the cd-rom on the same ide cable as the hard drive? If so move it to the secondary ide controller. If the cd-rom is detected every time...
