corky,
sorry I nor anyone else had answers for you - I had my own different problems with XP search {it is a very bad } file management tool and I got some great suggestions but finally resorted to a great freeware search program another member suggested.
I commend you for sharing your "fix"...
No - never felt you were selling anything - but "financial stability"?? If you can figure out even the large corporations financial health today you are much brighter than I.
nishant,
not to be disrespectful - but little guys versus reputable "big" guys - for that argument I'm not sure the statement "we colocate with Exodus, Qwest" is a particularly compelling selling point this particular day.
Several times using drive image 2002 - but I am concerned about this next time as I am going to change a video card and chang out one of my three hard drives - will be intersting to see how the "fresh" drive image copy of XP will react to the changes
I appreciate the view of Slycat - I personally will be sending a donation - But I respected everyone's views that were posted - the religious individual, the atheist, the person who felt it best to "put the dog down".
All well reasoned points of view - I don't believe anyone wanted to offend...
johnlog -
the dog thing is just sort of a joke - it takes little resources but every little but helps - so I turned off the dog - but I agree XP searches fine - but if you "find" 100 or more files try deleting 4 or 5 at a time and watch it hang - or delete and then try to scroll down the page...
Thanks for the powertoys suggestion - however it still hangs - if I "find" say 100 mp3s - and delete 5 at once it hangs for at least 20 seconds - and then when I try and scroll down the page it gives me the hourglass and hangs ofr antoher 20 secs or more - when I do get to the end it again...
I am bumping this because my thread title may have appeared merely a complaint - in essence I am asking for fixes or alternative programs that people know to work well. I will turn off the "dog" but I doubt that is causing the hangs and total slowness of XP search.
Thanks
I have two systems with adequate juice - athlon 1300 - 512 memory
Searches in XP search function produce the following {yes I have turned indexing off on all drives}
1 - if I go back to redo or alter a search it frequently reports that it ran into problems and I have to shut search down and...
I do indeed have 512 memory - I did completely turn off paging and that reduced my size substantially - in addition I believe programs are loading faster
thanks for all the good suggestions
Ghost 7.0 and powerquest Drive image 2002
I have a new install of XP - I don't use system restore - so I want to be extra careful - is there any reason I can't make a drive image of the xp system with both programs - i.e. - backup to drive or cdr using both programs? Just to be extra careful. My...
I did clean install and turned off system restore at first boot - I don't like it - I want to ghost this thing - no way shoud it have to be 2.3 gig with no programs and "system restore" off - should it?? Am I missing something - shouldn't XP be around 1 gig or less on fresh install?
thanks
Good deal - cheapest I saw online was about 45 plus shipping - as this is 5 disk I know it is the big Encarta Reference Library - but the exact product name is always helpful.
Great first post Brasscat.
Thanks
