Well, NOW I know it's not the hard drive. I plugged in a new barracuda and it locked up during Win2k installation. It's gotta be the motherboad...it's just gotta be. Motherboard should be here this afternoon. This thread is making me feel a little schizophrenic. How about someone at least...

Newegg rules

I needed an ATA66 IDE cable in a pinch at work and ran to a CompUSA up the street. I didn't pay attention to the price when I grabbed package in the isle. At the register, it rang up at over $20 with tax. I almost fainted. LOL...$20 bucks for an IDE cable.

DVD-Drive won't read DVDs

Great...same problems under Windows 2000. Of the ten DVDs I've tried, it will only recognize one and it skips badly on that one. The manufacturer assures me there are no other similar reports, so I guess I'll RMA it and see if a replacement is any better.

Thanks for the input, Tex. I guess you referring to the N-80 or maybe the M-81? I couldn't find an N-81. If you are referrng to the N-80, that LCD looks nice, but it sure ain't cheap. :Q The M-81 is reasonably affordable, but something tells me you mean the N-80.

I agree with JackMDS regarding the SMC entry level routers. I've installed two of those in homes and found that they offer range on par with more expensive routers. Definatley go with the Orinoco cards -- the receiving card is typically more of a limiting factor than the AP, in my experience...

Ok..this Delta fan is just too loud...suggestions?

I use Asus Probe, which ships with most Asus mobos. I believe other manufacturers provide similar products. You might even be able to use Asus Probe with any mobo, but I don't know that for sure -- it's available for download from the Asus site. Check your mobo manufacturer's site as well.

Thanks for the response. Turns out my "clients" aren't very savy in this department. I was aware of the converter on the Word 2000 disks. I had assumed the law office had already installed that converter and that the problem was they couldn't open the newer WP 2002 documents with the old Word...

LOL...although they were connecting to a 486 based server with a 1.5 gig harddrive that took over an hour to transfer 833 megabytes of information over the network, they were indeed CONNECTING, hassle-free, everytime....and then I went and threw Microsoft into the mix. :Q

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the network drivers on the computer that can't connect and then following the original instructions that came with your cable modem for configuring the adapter?

Abit BH6 rev1.0 with Celeron 1ghz?

What a great board in its day. I just upgraded the mobo in my sister's computer, and I had forgotten I had installed a BH6 in there and a Celery 300a @ 450mhz -- probobly three years ago or more. I got all nostalgic. Added the board to my spare parts bin -- it will live on in another system.

As you are probably gathering from the articles you are reading, there must be some mechanism (software or hardware) at work to share your internet connection. A simple hub/switch is insufficient. If you don't want to buy additional hardware, you can use ICS in Win98SE, when you recieve it...
