FWIW, my E2140 is running 12+ hours Orthos stable at 3.2 Ghz at 1.365v. I don't think that is really out of the ordinary so your voltage seems high. I also barely reached 60C at 2.8Ghz when I was using the stock cooler (since changed over to TR Ultima-90).
Mech: thanks much for the link. Didn't know that existed and will check it out.
Bsobel: you're probably right. I ran Windows update and it probably conflicted with what it was already installing.
Intstalled Vista 64-bit Ultimate yesterday and am having some interesting issues with Windows update. Basically, 18 or so of the "critical" updates failed to install. There is, apparently, no way for me to request Windows update to attempt to reinstall the "failed" patches nor do they show up...
Anyone have any links to relevant documents/sites that might more easily explain the difference between Vista 32-bit and 64-bit?
I'm trying to explain this to my Dad who wants to purchase a new computer and all I can find is stuff from 2006/early 2007 complaining (amongst other things) about...
Yeah, probably should have mentioned I'll most likely be O/Cing an E2140 in the short term. Am feeling masochistic atm as well so will be moving up (or down depending on your perspective) to Vista 64-bit.
Thanks to all for the input.
Did a search in this forum for "backlit" and "illuminated" but didn't find much. Any good suggestions for backlit keyboards? I find that I like to play games in low light conditions but really have trouble seeing the keyboard.
The Logitech G15 looks like it might be overkill for me and...
It was my router MTU setting. Apparently 1472 doesn't work for HTTPS connections in general with my D-link DSL-504T. Who knew?
Bumped MTU down to 1400 and everything works great. The magic number (so I've read) appears to be 1432... anything bigger and HTTPS times out.
I couldn't get the page to load in Firefox or IE. I then cleared my cache in both and could access the main page but cannot seem to get the search function on newegg.com or the secure ordering system to work. Anyone having similar problems?
Anyone run this router and have the latest firmware? There appear to be ZERO firmware downloads available on their web or ftp sites. Just curious if upgrades even exist anymore.
Checked the signal from comp again and strangness... appears that my vid-card spontaneously was no longer getting power. I have no idea how it would just spontaneously no longer get power from the system.
Re-seated the card, checked connections and such and now all is well. Thanks for the...
Appears my 2001fp is stuck in power saver mode every time that I boot up. Nothing is displayed on the screen and when I hit the menu button it tells me that the LCD is in power saver mode and that I just need to move the mouse or hit a key on the keyboard to bring it back to life...
Was having an issue with Windows periodically "losing" my second video card and thus disabling SLI. I'm afraid it might be related to the following issue and am not sure exactly how to solve this. I've looked quite a bit and cannot find anyone else with the same issue.
When I run World of...
My A8N-SLI Deluxe fan is dying (surprise, surprise) and making an annoying racket. I want to just unplug the damn thing until my passive cooler arrives in the mail. What temp is too hot? It's like 37C right now with the fan running between 1-2k rpms.
Thanks for any advice you can give.
Running my SLI setup just fine until Windows loses my second video card on reboot. Nothing was moved, pulled, etc.
Any ideas how this could happen? Nothing was touched.
Got SLI working again just fine. Boot up today (without changing a thing of course) and Windows can no longer find my 2nd 6800GT, i.e. it says the second card has been removed and it no longer shows up in device manager.
Anyone have a clue how/why Windows would be "losing" my card?
Yes, I did. Had it set on auto (card thing was set to dual) but even tried setting it to SLI only. Didn't help unfortunately. Frustrating thing was that it worked fine until I had to take the cards out.
I'm thinking that maybe there is something wrong with my SLI bridge... not making the...
Running two BFG 6800GTs on my A8N-SLI Deluxe board. Running the cards in SLI fine for a month or more now. Unplug the cards to "service" the POS fan on the chipset and when I plug them back in SLI is detected and all is fine.
As soon as I reboot, however, Windows loses my second card and...
Trying to get my SLI setup to reliably cooperater with World of Warcraft. Get random crashes, can't alt-tab, etc. It was suggested that I need to change the SLI rendering mode but with Coolbits and the 71.89 drivers I can't figure out how to do that.
Suggestions?
i.e. with modern drive technology this is no longer required, correct? I ask as the moving company just told me to make sure I did it but that doesn't sound correct.
Any info would be much obliged.
Not sure I really want to run 4 Raptors. Interesting idea though as I have really never considered RAID 10. Thx for the info on the Seagates as well... missed that model.
Will be running on A8N-SLI board. In essence, I'm looking for a very fast boot drive to store OS, games, throw away apps, etc., while maintaining a RAID 1 array for long term data storage.
This sound like a good setup? Anything I might be missing/overlooking? Haven't kept as up to speed on...
Suggestions? This will be my first laptop purchase so I'm curious where others tend to purchase their IBM laptops. Thanks for any help you can give me as I plan to purchase within the next month or so.
Google memtest and you should find it. That's what I did on my fiance's computer when she had the same problem. Turned out one of her DIMMs had crapped out.
