Silent 80 and 120 mm case fans recommendation request

Wow, $4 for a tiny resistor? At that price, I'd definitely prefer the fan controller. Newegg sells them a little cheaper than SVC--you can get 2 for under $10 shipped. Quick question though... are these meant to sit on the bottom of the case while they're connected to the mobo and fan?

I agree with everything said here. Keeping your existing platform and upgrading only the RAM or CPU would give you less performance per dollar spent. Because it's less cost efficient, I would save money until you can get a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Until then, it would probably be better...

Thanks for the tips. I'll try the cable/zip tie solution first. I might go to a cheap Zalman cooler from Newegg at some point, unless somebody has a better idea for a passive cooling solution.

Good call, Mills. I just came back to write that I figured out what it was, and it turns out you had the same problem I did. The last computer I worked on didn't have a separate 8- or 4-pin connector, so I didn't know to look for it originally.
