Yes, the X series are the ultraportable Thinkpads. At about 3lbs, they have the best build quality in the IBM family (right up there with the T series). I'm on my second one. BTW, they also have excellent resale value which is a good thing if you plan on upgrading every 2 years or so.
Dells...

Cons
1. Bad...
Dell usually overestimates shipping times...I've had orders show up a whole week ahead of schedule. Maybe they try gathering brownie points from us by underpromising.
Wait...there's more...this week's ad also shows that OD will give you a $40 merchandise card with this printer....so knock off another $40 (effectively) off this price. That makes it a flaming deal at "as low as" $30.
I teach in a large East Coast university...my suggestion would be to get a laptop. You'll need your files outside your home/apt/dorm way too often. The WiFi is going to be good because way too many schools have WiFi access (at the very least in classroom buildings and libs). As with this family...
I still can't get used to the dim backlit 151FPs after staring into CRTs for so long. Aren't the Samsungs the same as the insides of the pricier 15" Dells? This seems to be brighter than the Dells that are going for $320 now. But better? Maybe...but then I don't use them for gaming.

The display quality is a heck of a lot better (and brighter) than the 151FP Dell LCD. The reviews at Amazon.com are very good.
