An addendum to my above comment/recommendation for MSSE: I used Avira Pro paid for several years, eventually switched to the free version for myself and clients. However, the free version of Avira became very nagging, lots of popups and notices to buy. SO, I went back to MSSE, been there ever...

Meaning of "SATA 4 and SATA 5 do not support IDE mode"?

^that's what prety much happened to me with my ECS board, 8200 chipset. I originally pointed roadkill to this thread, because the problem was so similar. His suggestions didn't work. What DID work was replacing the board with a NON-8200 chipset, in my case an Asrock. This deserves a good...

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Clear Sky

Mod STALKER, then finish SP. Its worth it--much better. I finished it unmodded, then added some mods and it really was a totally different experience. I'm disappointed that we have to wait until August, now, instead of Q1 2008 as originally scheduled--but STALKER was like what, 3 + years late...

what ^ they all said. if you DO manage to find another T30 w/a good lcd, you might be able to simply swap the entire lid. that would be the cheapest/easiest route.

Suggestions for the best ~$500 laptop

what is ^ ? a mac? vista? XP? someone noted that Vista would be a big MINUS to whatever you bought. check slickdeals or better yet, fatwallet.com. edit: if you're shopping @ bb, check sku 8648118 its a Toshiba @ $599. 2gb ram.

those are all high-power requirement components! Bottom line is this will work for "average" stuff, but if you're a gamer, oc'er, or put any 'special' requirements on your psu (i.e. 5 drives plus 4 usb and a gf6 video card), go with a sturdier ps (Antec). This will work fine for older components...

cant boot off of USB HDD

If Cleeve was using the external USB drive as a backup/clone/ghosted drive, he'd want to test that it booted to the OS. Just a guess.

Thanks, but I tried that when I first got the board. I initially used the Celeron D and it didn't boot, so I figured I literally needed a P4 and didn't have one, so it's been sitting here for 6 months waiting for me to TS it. I wrote ECS asking for support on the board because Newegg only covers...

Nope, another cpu fan doesn't help and the fan is definitely on the right (CPU) pin header...Tried another good Antec True 380S, no dice. Must be a bad board.

Okay, I will try another cpu fan and verify the header it's plugged into. The PSU is an Antec 350-something, don't have the model handy. It's the second one I've tried, and the 4-pin ATX cable is plugged in. (How can I update the bios if I can't get it to boot? heh) Thanks. Anyone else?

I have an ECS 865PE-A rev 2.0 that doesn't boot--power to the fans, but that's all, no beeps--nothing. Does this board REQUIRE that I use a Prescott in it? I have been finding conflicting info. From the ECS site I find the CPU table here showing I could use Celerons, Willamettes, as well as...

Medal of Honor Deluxe at Circuit City & Walmart for $20

Both games are very similar in play. As someone noted, they're by the same designers and you can tell. I found some of the CoD levels to be a bit over the top as far as difficulty (on the harder/hardest settings) but the MoH Breakthrough (Africa missions) were especially original! I had _more_...
