Thanks for the info, guys. It's going to be a word processing/mp3/net box, so the onboard video isn't as important - I think I've found the right board for the purpose. It'll be running Win2k, so drivers shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks again.
I just answered my own question. This board has the 220D chipset as opposed to the 420D on the other board.
Still, anybody have any comments on the board?
I recently noticed a new addition to Asus' nForce motherboard line (which previously consisted of like, one mobo :) ) being the A7VN266-VM.
I'm looking at building a cheap system for my girlfriend, and the asking price for the board seems to fit in well with my budget, at around AUD$154. This...
An effective throughput of 2.1GB/s is still nothing to sneeze at.
Certainly, there is agreement on the fact that the XP is not a workstation platform, simply because its lower memory bandwidth can become saturated while undertaking tasks that require high levels of memory access.
For the rest...
Undoubtedly, TCPA would become widespread in Australia not long after the US. We have enough redneck conservatives in power here to make it happen. It doesn't help that our elected leader likes to kiss Dublya's ass every visit.
If MS plays this out to a logical conclusion, they can...
iD are in the business of making brilliant engines. The games they release based on the engines are usually glorified technology demos. It takes someone else to develop a game using the engine before its real qualities are unearthed (Half-Life, anyone?).
A PSU not supplying necessary power can cause just about every identifiable problem on every piece of hardware in your system.
Most cheapo OEM boxes have bad "HappyTronic SuperMonkey" 300W PSUs which can't even properly supply 250W.
RAM switching is a good band-aid but as soon as you want to...
As always, iD announce their games well in advance of the actual release to build up some community support. It gives PlanetQuake and all the others a chance to rant and prophesize or whatever.
Remeber that Quake3 runs well in 1024x768x32 on a GF2 card, and even the more budget cards can...
Up here in Brisbane we have no difficulties getting both Asus and MSI Nforce boards, although I haven't seen any Abit ones.
While you're obviously annoyed, it's a little over the top to accuse Epox of using a crap sound chip when you're asking them for ages old legacy support that no one even...
I believe it's to do with the Promise RAID controller. It seems to want to check for RAIDed drives even when you tell it not to. Not having a board with a Promise controller, I can't tell you for sure. But it seems like a decent bet.
Anand actually mentions this in the roundup of KT333...
