Where to start troubleshooting

Funny thing. I unplugged all the internal power cords that were not needed and made sure all the others were tight. Still didn't work. So I unplugged all the external connections and moved the computer near the other one planning on using the PS of the other computer. I decided to test it...

Yep, another traffic ticket thread.....

I guess it depends on where you live. Like I said here they don't pull you over for less than 10 and that when they are in a bad mood. I know a lot of cops that think it is a waste to pull someone over for less than 17. But then again here if you are not going 10-15 over on a 3 lane street...

Dual Display Video-in problem

100% CPU usage???

I had the same problem with a customers computer. It was the HP office jet driver. I uninstalled the driver for fax etc, and only installed the print driver and it worked fine. That if you have one of those. If not drivers are listed under system so look into that.

Yes, I did uninstall the drivers first. I have a question. How much of a loss will I actually get from turning off the AGP8X and running it on 4x? It is a Geforce 4 Ti-4200 with 128MB of memory. I can't really see it ever needing to use the system memory.

I've tried the bios, it didn't work. I have also tried Directx9, newest video drivers from MSI (4172), newest NF2 drivers from MSI, there is no video bios. I'm running out of ideas. I am am trying to find my USB to PS/2 adaptor to change the mouse port and see if that fixes anything.

Yes I said that wrong. I meant more of it is the software the freezes, but the CPU orginally causes the problem. Not the CPU that freezes.

How old is this computer? Can the bios only support a 8Gb HD? Do you use a program to override the bios before? Like Maxblast for Maxtor HD's.

cable modem problemo

Can you ping 192.168.100.1? If I remember right you should be able to ping it. I am guessing that since you have a USB connection that you are the only computer hooked up to the cable modem? If not it could be an internal IP conflict. Other than that I would say it's time to buy a new modem...

Why is this happening?

What operating system? XP reboots when there is a blue screen error. This can be shut off to trouble shoot problems. Of course it should still recognize the C drive. If it was just the reboot I would say it was a driver problem.

What operating system are you using? I have a SC also. I am running Win98SE and don't even have that file on my system. I am upgrading to XP this week, well reformating and installing XP. If I run into the file then maybe I can help more.

Paralell vs Serial memory, which will conquer the mainstream in the comming years?

Well I think there are two ways to look at this. Parallel could actually be faster if it is designed right, but this is extreamly difficult. Serial is easier to work with since you can use a smaller bus, but to get the same bandwidth you need to pump up the clock, which again creates problems...

I wouldn't say that AMD is less stable than Intel. If you go all Intel, CPU, motherboard, etc then yes it would be. The stability of the system mainly comes from the motherboard and chipset. An AMD CPU on an ASUS motherboard with a VIA chipset is just as stable as an Intel CPU on an ASUS...

The problem might be all the $$ they are spending on getting Hammer out. The fact that SOI isn't really a high-yield technology is probably a big problem. I am guessing they were trying to use Barton on SOI and couldn't get squat for yields, so had to stop and redesign for a non-SOI version...

problem with cpu or mobo?

It could very well be the power supply too, but taking it down to a min it will usually work. For modern PC's you need AT LEAST a 300w power supply, and sometimes that's not enough. Plus you need a good brand if you only run 300w, because the lower quality ones probably won't run right.
