I'm not sure you're going to see much of any differrence compared to what you're running now, if that's the system you are upgrading. Unles you've really got money to burn I can't imagine upgrading to sandy bridge, or even Ivy bridge most likely... I don't know what real world performance gains...
Thanks for the input, I suppose I was just suprised. I'm thinking it may be that there are more novices in the hobby these days? That would explain some of it. I imagine many boards that are thought to be DOA are not actually DOA, they're being shorted out by a bad mounting job etc. etc. etc...
And as I think of it more.... We see a lot of reviews of new hardware and that's great. But many of the boards I'm sure I sent by the manufacturer, maybe hand picked. It would be nice to see reviews that are done with boards bought from retail. Even if that's not feasible it would be nice to see...
I've had an Asrock board in the past and it did work well for me. I suppose that any of these current gen boards are a bit of a gamble but I think I'll go with one of the Asrock boards. The price premium of the Asus boards just doesn't seem to be worth it considering that (from what I can take...
Hi!
It's been awhile but I'm building again and I've been reading forums and reviews about Z68. I plan on doing an i5 2500k, 16 GB of ram (I work with some very large RAW files in lightroom etc.) and will carry over my HD 4890 (which may get upgraded later and I'd like the posibility of...
I'm a relatively experienced system builder and enthusiast. Haven't posted here for a long time but I've run up against an issue I can't solve.
I have a Samsung 245BW 24 inch LCD
It will only display up to 1920x1080 in Windows Vista 64-bit not it's native 1920x1200
Nvidia 8800 GTS...

I'd say there's a fair chance the system is not working correctly. But regardless, I did get 1 of each key. I am having a hard time getting the ISO downloaded however. It seems stop at various places as if it has completed. I'm trying it with flashget now.
Just finished a build with this. Great case. I have my old system in a p180 (original version) and the cable management options in the 182 are really nice.
looks like this is dead... I waited too long to buy. Anyone have a line on a good vista deal? I need it for a second PC. What happened to the pricedrop?
May be a silly question but I didn't see it in my documentation. When installing a thermalright Ultima-90 on a q6600 (or any processor for that matter) How tight should the screws be tightened?
you can get a q6600 at club it for 219.00 OEM http://www.clubit.com/product_...il.cfm?itemno=A1938460 there is a coupon code in the hotdeals forum for it to bring it down 20$
mwave's price is way too high for that part, but understandable considering shortages. I still don't see the price premium being with the tiny performance gain between these and the 65nm parts. The anandtech article takes it to almost a fanboyish level and the tone they use isn't justified.
Save some money and space. Buy the Ultima - 90 (thermalright) the anandtech review clearly shows it performs withing just a few degrees of the huge and expensive TRUE or TUniq Tower. It costs less, and is smaller. It fits just fine in a p180
I'm looking to move my A64 X2 ( NOT AM2) 3800+ @ 2.8 ghz into a secondary machine for my wife to do office work, but I want to wait until I am replacing it with a significant upgrade.
Will a q6600 be a big upgrade? I plan on putting on a TRUE (Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120) and pushing it...
Thanks for the update, much appreciated!
There has been speculation about the northbridge cooling being insufficient for a good OC, or possibly even stock. How do you feel about that?
I agree... I dont care for the blog thing, although I could easily forgive that if it were MUCH more timeley and frequent.
I often feel like I'm reading a site that no one has really bothered to update seriously for a week or more... the site just "feels" slow latley....... like it's edge is...

Does this mean the 780i is a better chipset, not really in our opinion, but if you have a need for SLI you will not be at a disadvantage when it comes to using a 45nm processor on a NVIDIA platform now. On a side note, our next blog update will show how well a $95 650i based board from...
