I remember the days of that celeron hitting 450 everywhere as well, it was nuts. It seemed like a time when the word 'overclocking' went mainstream, even amidst the scandals of vendors illegally marking cpu's.
I had that problem once because I was using cheap media....then one day I turned on data verification and all my discs were failing. I switched media and no more problems. I'd suggest trying the data verification method after burning a disc just to test the media.
