    quiet 80mm fan for heatsink?

Get panaflo/stealth if you want really quite. Prefer panaflo since stealth are whiny. Get an adjustable if you just want your computer quite for a part of the day. Hunt for NMB fans if you want cheap quite. Or do the 7v trick/ solder resistors onto a fan if you don't want to buy something new.

    Temperature spikes?

I would keep the monitoring software on all the time and keep a log or something. Note any serious oddities. Also, mid-50's or low temp is nothing to be worried about unless there is something weird.

    fluid bearing fans

Fluid bearing is really just modified sleeve bearing. Open up a sleeve bearing fan and there is a film of grease or something, which is where the name fluid/sleeve comes from. So, yes panaflos are fluid bearing.

    SIS 730S Driver help

I am trying to find the drivers for a SIS730S based mother board. When I go to the sis website and see the driver map locate here http://www.sis.com/support/drivermap.htm I see that I need graphics, audio, network, and IDE drivers. Yet when I try to download from their download center through...

what is the best heatsink right now

SK7 and AX7 are pretty good and a bit cheaper than SLK-800/900.

    Glacialtech Igloo 2500

I have this and several other HS. The performance is okay and it's a bit on the loud/higher pitch side. GC68 is better for low price and SK/AX/ALK series is better for performance.

AX-01 case and 1800xp running kinda hot- looking for good way to cool down-

Use a HSF from thermalright. Zalmans are low noise, but also fairly bad at cooling. Besides, if you have 5 fans, noise isn't a factor anyway. I recommend the SK7, which is almost as good as SLK-800 but smaller, slighter, and cheaper.

Which case is better for building a quiet computer? Aluminum or Steel?

A lot of noise comes from the fan hitting the fan opening built into the case. Cut the thing out and replace it with fan grills instead and you lower your noise by a lot. This is solve reverberation and rattling of the case. I just did this to all my cases and my T-bird 1.4ghz system is using a...

    newb fan question

60mm fan is primarily for the good old days when CPU's aren't very hot and a 60mm can do their job. Also, some mobo don't have nice clearing around the CPU to allow you to use a 80MMHSF combo. Generally case fans should be 80mm or bigger. If you want to suck air out, but it in the back. However...

If I switch heatsinks, what will I need to do?

The bottom to a heatsink is not perfectly flat. Therefore, you need something to microcosmic gaps between the HSF and CPU core. If the contact is bad, you CPU fries and stuff. Therefore, you apply either(exclusive) a thermal pad or thermal grease to provide a smooth contact. Pads are cleaner...

Problem with Sunbeam Rheobus. 12V line drops to 11.5V and makes LED fans dim. Possible mod to fix the LED's?

First, by specification, manufactures are given at least 5% wiggle room. That is, a sytem promising to output 12V can legally do anywhere from 11.4-12.6. Second, anything that consumes power acts like a resistors. Having LED in series with each other involves having the 1st acting as a resistor...

    need some suggestion here.

Keep in mind the dimension of a normal case. It's more like retangle than a cube. Also, make a plan. Things can, and will go wrong.

    150W PSU - P4/AMD XP Cabable?

Here is a good guide about powersupplies http://firingsquad.gamers.com/guides/power_supply/page2.asp But for the record, a P4 consumes more like 80-90W rather than 60. HD and DVD are more like 25Watt. Then, take into account your mobo, which is something like 10-15W, then video card is something...

    Need more juice?

No. Read carefully, max combined output = 245W probably notes the max combined output of the 5.5V and 3.0V and excludes the 12V. In any event, if you don't have enough power, you should crash, not have your fan slow down. A fan is only like 2-5Watts anyway. I doubt that little makes a...

chieftec stock fan vs panaflo L1As

You are probably going to be okay to replace if you have 4 fans. One way to lower noise without sacrificing performance is cutting out the fan plate and replace it with a fan grill. Most of fan noise is actually from the air hitting the plate on your case. Grills are more aerodynamic and...

    Airflow and Noise Question?

Front intake fans are generally marginally beneficial. I don't think two front intake fans will do that much good. Replace the coolermaster and antec with the stealth and see how much hotter it is.

Thermalright SK-7 question, how low of a cfm fan is advisable

Use your fans and look at your temps. If it is over 50C, put something else on there. A good trick is to remove the attached metal on the case in the back where you place your outtake fan and snap on a grill instead. That way, airflow is better.

    Whats the best cooling case?

Case has little to do with cooling. It depends on how many holes the case has, how well the holes are placed, and what fans you use. Antec cases are generally excellent.
  21. M

    Which Case to buy?

All those cases are fine, but Raidmax PSU are crap. Since PSU by themselves are expensive, look into an antec combo since it is cheaper than buying the PSU and case individually.
  22. M

    reducing fan noise?

Mod your fans by putting resistors in them or do the 7 volt trick. So long as all your 80mm fans are under 1800RPM and 60MM are under 3000RPM, you computer is not much louder than a standard dell machine.

What's difference between Chenming, Chieftec, Supertalent cases?

The case differences are minor, however, the PSU are rally different. (since Chemming is also making antec stuff)

    Antec True330

Probably wouldn't hurt to go higher. However, Antec PSU won't blow as people love to tell you. You computer will just crash if there is not enough juice. If your computer starts crashing when you are doing something intensive, that's probably the clue that your PSU is not enough. Else, no real...

    A good CPU fan?

If you are overclocking by that much, that is the noise you get. At stock speed, a panaflo probably would do though.

    Should I get a Volcano 9?

No. ThermalTake HSF = crap. SLK800 or 900 is obviously good, but if you are on a budget, look at the SK7. Quite a bit cheaper, but only marginally worse. From my experience Vocalno7+ on highest spin is nowhere as good as SK7 with a 1900RPM panaflo fan. I know for a fact taht Volcano 9 is worse...

Cheapest HSF for a 2600+ non overclocked???

I think the die is too small for GC68 since it is all aluminum. If you want good cooling, probably look at something like SK7 for above $20-$25 around. I just don't think anything cheaper will cut it. Definitely make sure the HS is copper or at least have a copper core.

    p4 cooling and case

One of the best HSF is Thermalright AX478. Put any 80mm afn above 2200RPM and you are more than good. Obviously, use some AS3. As far as case is concerned, get an Antec case/powersupply. Although any case will do, but get a good PSU.

Try an adaptor. Although if your HSF is really bad, get the GC68. You could also get it at nexfan.com and several other places.

Quiet fan for a tbred 1700.

I don't think it is your fan. I just installed a t-bred 1700+ for my friend and we used SK7+ with a 2000RPM fan. The temp is mostly at high 30's and low 40's. Get a better HS like SK7 and you can use low RPM fans.

    Antec 350W PSU for $30

12V and 5V is generally used to power your peripherals like CD-rom, harddrive... 12V exclusively power your modern CPU. Mobo, vidcard, and other cards use 3.3V and 5V. Read up more in the case and cooling forum for more details.

    Radeon 9500PRO woes

I have installed DX9 and teh Cat3.0 drivers without avail. The problem is that in 3D applications, i.e. Deus Ex, I can enter the Menu only a few minutes before the card crashes. I am pretty sure I have enough juice in my PSU. It is a server grade with good specs on everything. Anymore ideas?

Just got a Albatron KT400 motherboard and a 9500PRO. I am now having problems with 3D stability. I can get into windows just fine... I am not overclocking and I have tried to up the voltage to 1.8V. The crash came a bit later. Can't seem to change the AGP speed. Any assistance is appreciated.

Grab one of those NMB low RPM fans that runs at like 17CFM. They are pretty much inaudible.

Suggestions for a pretty good HSF for a 1700+ on a Soyo KT400

I second SLK-800. Just installed that on my friend's computer yesterday. We were looking at sub-40 degree C temps. SK-7 is also good. I don't particularly like Alpha becaue their stuff is so expensive, but mounting the SLK did take some effort.
