Ok, here's my problem Everything runs fine when nothing intensive is happening : GF3 Ti 200 (240/500), 1.6a @ 2.4 (1.5v - Asus motherboard tends to overvolt so it's actually 1.55v as reported by Asus Probe), DDR375 (2.65v). Anyways, the system crashes during QUAKE III ARENA. I play it 1024x768...

Wow, once a month eh? Our's is every weekend, but of course not in the same place though. I would say you have a pretty good chance of finding a suitable P4 at a show that size. I really doubt the price on the 1.6a's will rise above $200. They have to at least stay under the price of 1.8a's...

One more thing about those benchmarks of the new SiS648. They don't put comparisons of the i845E/G running at DDR400. They compare SiS648 DDR400 with i845E DDR266 / i845G DDR333. Of course the SiS648 running DDR400 is going to be faster! (Unless the memory controller really incredibly sucks)...

Hey Sunny, The 1.6a is definitely a good choice in terms of value/performance (gained by overclocking of course). Although, I think they're running short on supply as I've seen the prices on them go up roughly $10 in the past week. You may want to try to get your 1.6a as soon as possible...

How do YOU lap?

The only way I've heard to lap a CPU is to tape the edges and bottom, turn it upside down, place two fingers on either side of the die, and start a circular (or was it linear?) motion against 800/1000 grit sandpaper which is against a flat pane of glass. Diluted/Dionized water on the sandpaper...

Ehh...I would, but budget is tight and I like all those mem ratios the P4S has. Do the older i845 boards (non-i845E/G) have the AGP/PCI lock? What's the performance like on those compared to the P4S533 (SiS 645DX)?

Hi I'm new! :D Anyways, I'm planning to build a new system with a P4S533 + 1.8a + Corsair XMS3200 I'm pretty confident about hitting 2.4 Ghz (133 FSB), provided I buy one of the newer 1.8a's. But in the long run, I plan on running it at 2.7 Ghz (150 FSB). Ok, assuming I get it that high...
