setting up home system- 2.4 GHz interference?

As far as the cable goes...a dedicated line is better because once you start splitting the cable (like most TV coax is done at least once or twice) you lose signal power as well as quality. It's ok for the TV because they require a pretty crappy signal level. However, your modem is very picky...

connecting a hub to my router/switch.

I think you would only need a crossover if you're connecting unlike ports. If you're going from one uplink to the uplink on the hub you can use regular cable. likewise for the normal ports. If you go from uplink to regular use crossover. I'm pretty sure this is how it'd work but you may want...

UPDATE #2: Problem sharing my cable modem connection for 3 Pcs

First(if you haven't tried this already)...try and connect a PC that's unable to get online directly to the modem. If you're still unable to get online try pinging a popular IP address like yahoo's. If you can ping out you have a Winsock or at least some kind of Windows issue. If you can't...

CCNA or Network+ or?

I would recommend the second one. Taking CCNA courses and just do a little studying for Net+ on the way. There's some things on Net+ not covered in CCNA, so you might want to pick up a book for it. Net+ is definitley one you can handle on your own, without paying for training.

yes, plug the correct end of the ide cable into your secondary drive. Also, to set the jumper just refer to the manual if you still have it, otherwise if you're lucky your jumpers on the old hard driver are marked. As long as the old hard drive is using a file format recognizable by your OS...

winnt dhcp reservations need help!!!

I really don't know a whole lot about DHCP, but I believe you can give out IP's with DHCP by MAC ID for each NIC. I think it just pulls the same IP for each machine every time they boot up. By not specifying the outsiders MAC's in your DHCP table they shouldn't be able to pull IP's.

Rebooting routers on Cable ISP

Does Cox use DHCP or static? I was thinking it was just a DHCP issue, where the routers don't want a new IP address. Also, what brand of modems are you using?

Thanks Remy, but you don't have to go through any extra trouble. I was just hoping there was some generic setting out there that I could recommend to eliminate too many call-backs. I don't use a router myself so I wasn't really all that familiar with their internal support or differences across...

Rebooting routers on Cable ISP

OK, the ISP uses DHCP. The routers need to be rebooted quite a bit. Is it possible they don't function well using DHCP? Most of these routers are probably pretty low price Best Buy kind. Any kind of generic setting that will prevent this? As soon as the router is rebooted everything is OK...

Network Settings

You don't need NetBeui for your SB Modem. It's non-routable without a big headache so Im' pretty sure you could just remove that. You could probably get rid of one of those dial-ups too. If you remove both and reboot I believe one of them should come back.

Hi all. Got a question about a quick, dirty way to fix my boot.ini file. It is reported as invalid by Windows on startup; the computer boots ok except for that message. I've looked up and checked and rechecked the correct spelling of everything and syntax and all that...looks just like...

Motorola Signal Booster

I agree with the last two guys. It is the Cable company's problem. They will clean up or boost your signal. Just call and they can check the signal over the phone as long as you don't live in the sticks. I do this everyday actually, and the only thing worse than angry customers is angry...

I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe NetBios is just an OSI layer for NetBeiu I think it handles the Session layer.

Internet connection dies...

I don't have any experience with DSL modems, but quite a bit with Cable Modems. With Cable Modems, the modem actually caches information, and occassionally the cache becomes corrupted and the only solution is to reboot the modem. However, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to get back...

Cable modem help

Your speeds are a little slow. D/L speeds differ from speeds advertised though(not sure from post if you know or not, if you do all apologies). They rate their speed at bits per second, whereas D/L's are rated as bytes per second. So, since there's 8 bits in a byte, you D/L speed in general...
