Please Help!!! Is my problem my Athlon XP's fault or my Asus A7V266's fault?

Only times I've seen this problem happen was on Asus boards...never found a fix for it except changing the motherboard (to a non asus of course)

Northwood Dillema - Am I Seriously this Unlucky?

First off the rambus I'm using will run fine at 533. Second, the abit th7II allows you to use 3x instead of 4x on the ram so that kinda rules out the rambus problem. (at 133fsb and rambus at 3x it doesnt even full get back up to 400mhz on the ram). Also, you posted a link to a bios #'d h77 (link...

Northwood Dillema - Am I Seriously this Unlucky?

I'm having similar problems with my 1.8A and TH7II I can only get it totally stable at about 2ghz, which is pretty disappointing...no matter what kind of settings I put on the memory.

Do what I do, sell your current stuff to somebody locally (build a friend a PC or something) so you can buy the newer stuff for yourself =)

any continuing problems with sblive and VIA?

Personally I've never had a problem with a SB Live card in any of the multiple hundreds of systems I've built with them, whether its a VIA chipset or SiS or Intel or what-have-you. Not sure why some people report problems. ps. Currently running an SB Live on a kt266a board and XP...no problems...

anybody got a shuttle ak35gtr yet?

I got mine about a week ago, working fine so far, no problems. Seems quite a bit snappier than my old SDRAM setup (1gig sdram vs 512DDR)

Transition from Athlon to Athlon XP

I've used the DFI AK75-EC many times (we sell them at work) and they will work fine with your Athlon XP without the bios update. It'll just say the actual mhz rating instead of the PR rating of the XP (So instead of 1700+ it'd say 1.47ghz) No worries.

Like I said above, I have no problems with completing the deal with him if he wants to send it first I am not going to ship first, or cross-ship because that is not how the deal was agreed to. If he doesnt like that, then I guess the deal is over. It's not really my problem if he went ahead...

Harddrive Completely gone

Ive seen this happen about 3 times now actually. Partitions just disappearing. I'm still using the drive of mine that it happened to, so its not a bad drive (it happened like 2 years ago). I've seen it at work a couple other times. No idea what causes it, so I'm not gonna try to guess. However...

Dell (Rebadged Mircon) 256MB PC133 RAM for 21 bucks and 1 gig for 65 bucks

I just got my 4 in, they are all running fine right now at 133 and CAS2 (even tho they say right on it CAS3).

How does this system sound? Appreciate your input.

Antec 1040B case (400w) says 400w right there =) Only change I might make would get a Gainward GF2 Ti450, newegg has them for 99 bucks. the GTS-V is supposed to be slower than an old regular GTS i think. Otherwise looks good to me =)

How do I copy HD to HD with 2 separate computers?

I've always found it easiest to just take the hard drive out of one machine and slap it into the other one, copy the stuff over, then put it back in the old machine =/

Tribes 2 - Unplayable on a V5 w/AMD 1.33, 512 memory??

It's a known issue with Tribes 2, any and all Voodoo cards suck bigtime running it. Most people in the old Tribes1 community are now forced to upgrade to Geforce based cards just to be competitive. Which really sucks cause in Tribes 1, if you wanted smooth gameplay you had to have a Voodoo based...

$%# WTF... won't my D-Link 10/100 switch work?!! **UPDATED** I'm back from BestBuy with NetGear..It works like a charm!

I could be wrong but some hubs/switches share the #1 port and the Uplink port. Might want to try using another port on the D-link However I could be totally wrong in this, i honestly cant remember. -Durron

What is a good 56k hardware modem?

If you can find a cheap Smartlink ISA modem based on a Texus Instruments chip, those are great. Problem with smartlinks is it's very hard to tell what the hell kind of modem is inside the box (they're basically all the same box). Nice thing about TI based modems is you can usually use US...

Why does @Home suck for people

It has alot to do with the actual cable company in your area. And what modems they are giving people. Here in Sarasota, FL we have Comcast Cable. They used to provide the standard Motorola POS modems. They did alright, I could get maybe 200KB/sec max to a good server. But after alot of bitching...

Zip Drive Click Death

Yeah that's a very common problem with Zip drives. I was wondering though, is this the same case with USB zip drives? I've noticed the USB ones are in a fairly sturdy housing, much more so than internals or the parrallel port models.

Help! My PC freezes, and the merchant is no help - bad motherboard?

I'm thinking either heat on your video card, or a bad motherboard. When you sent it to the manufactuer and they just sent it back, did they say that it worked fine for them or some such? Or did they just send it back and say "F' you we wont fix it" ?

Replacing a Laptop monitor

It isn't TOO difficult, but be prepared to almost completely take apart your laptop. If memory serves me right you have to take the top cover and keyboard off first (3 screws on the bottom front and 1 where the batter comes out) to gain access to the screws to take the screen off. I could be...

Why does start-up (dos)screen say : "SCSI bios not installed!" ?

It will say this if you don't have a SCSI hard drive hooked up. Don't worry about it.

Fdisk may be basic but it gets the job done and with little work. Just read the damn screen before you go past it (ie: "Do you want to enable large disk support?")

How to force refresh rates in win2k

You might want to try Powerstrip, I know that lets you set different default refresh rates to each resolution. Also I had the same problem with Starcraft (or any game that is 640x480) with it setting an odd refresh and would therefore not display. I fixed it by changing my monitor driver to...

Burning Music? Problems at high speeds?

Depends mostly on the quality of the disc media you are using. I have some really cheap memorex CDs that get wierd problems if I burn audio over 2x on them. (tracks just suddenly end, skipping, etc). Data works fine at higher speeds however.
