    Well, I'm not interested in Crossfile or SLI. I also want to keep using my AGP 6800GT for a bit longer until I see a 32 pipeline part from nVIDIA. That's when I'll make a jump to PCIe x16 GPUs. Hopefully by early 2006, the prices on the A64 X2 4400+ CPU's will be down to around $350-400.

    I say for the GPU. My friend has 1GB of DDR400 in dual-channel mode with a 9800Pro OC'ed to 400MHZ/360MHZ. Even so, he can only go up to 1024x768 at medium quality with all in-game settings turned on. Also, his CPU is a 2.8GHZ.

    If you want extreme cooling, you could buy a CPU cooler and bolt it on to your GPU core. Just make sure you have enough clearance to not bump any nearby capacitors. If you don't have any dremel experience, though, i wouldn't recommend it. In that case, try the Arctic VGA Silencer revision 3.

    Although it can be done, it's strongly advised that you do a complete reinstall fresh from the beginning. Many of the drivers on your HDD are for different hardware configurations and settings. Same goes for the Registry. It can get icky.
