    Paying off vs trading-in car

Be careful here... you're right in that there's no time like the present, in that you'll obviously get the more dollars for the car today, than you will next month. But that does not mean it's prudent to sell the car today. Your cost per mile (in depreciation) is higher the newer the car is. In...

    2006 Audi 2.0T Quattro w/ 109k miles - longevity/maintenance

Yes, they extended the warranties on this for 10 years. It's a known issue, but not a huge deal. At this point, you should know if you have an issue or not. The easiest way to check is people replace the cam follower (a $20 part) and check it for wear. If you have wear, you go to the Audi dealer...

Wanting to consolidate home and business mortgages. Advice?

I don't think he's specifically saying you need to merge the two loans. I think he's suggesting that it'll be easier to sell business assets without the property being included in the sale (much lower selling price presumably).

TPMS saved the day! Or did it?

Link? I found the hard to believe. What's actually happening is that now that ABS systems are very sophisticated, manufacturers are able to measure wheel rotation speed using them to figure out if a tire is flat (as it rotates at a different rate). This gets rid of having to put a sensor into...

Used VW TDIs a good buy now?

I agree, I wouldn't be that scared of them either. They're currently reliable and can be registered in any state except CA. Even if the fix ruins MPG or is invasive in some way, it's a used car. Just reflash it. Or if a lease is an option, there's screaming deals on Passats for current owners...

Does it make sense to buy phone released 2 years back !!

What's a good price? I'd be surprised if you couldn't get a lower-end current gen phone instead for similar money. That would likely be a better performing phone than a GS4.

Tronsmart Quick Charge 2.0 18W AC Home Wall Travel Charger for $9.5 + FS @Amazon

It's a Quick Charge (qualcomm tech) charger, not a regular 2A one. If you've got a supported phone (Note 4 in my case), it'll do something like 0 to 80% in 30 minutes.

Is it common practice to take a used car to a mechanic before purchase?

Depends on the arrangement you make with the seller. I bought a car 1,000 miles away and found an independent shop to look at it. I made the appointment and told the seller to drop off the car and I'd call him when it was ready. The shop called me with the result, I paid up, and the seller...

    Thermostat question

Thermostats are designed to fail open, not closed. Sounds like yours is stuck open. That's a problem and it should be replaced, but you might have something else wrong. A stuck open thermostat would be too much cooling, not overheating.

Is the Galaxy Pro 8.4 the best current Android deal?

Have you tried just resetting the thing to factory defaults? I've got the same tablet and non of those issue, so I doubt it's exactly a driver issue. Likely a bad config somewhere, but you'll be chasing it for hours, so it's easier to reset.

How would you arrange this living room?

This is an interesting idea, thanks! My original thought about the TV on that wall, would mean that if it was centered on the wall, it wouldn't have been watchable from the couch (that's against the windows). With your plan, if you center the TV to the couch, it get's rid of that issue, but...

I'm in the process of buying a condo and it's got an open layout for the living room. I currently have a nice 55" TV with a 7.1 system, but I'm used to having a "standard layout", with a TV against the main wall and then two couches in an L shape. Anybody have any suggestions for how you'd...

IMEI swapping service for blacklisted phones

Aren't you basically admitting you've bought, and now found a way to use, a stolen phone? IMEIs don't just get blacklisted. The phones either get reported lost/stolen or you people run away from carriers without paying the ETF (and therefore stole the phones from the carrier). While I'm sure...

Do you guys do most of your reading on a smartphone?

It "works", but I'd certainly never do it as a primary reading device. No matter how large the screen is, it'll still be easier to read on a device without an LCD screen. Kindles are so cheap now-a-days, that why not just throw an e-reader in your bag for real reading?

Help Me Pick Out a Used Big SUV Around 5K

They have some known issues, like that fuel pump, but yes, I do. Keep in mind that platform is the same as all of their pick up trucks. If there's anything GM does well, it's BoF (Body on Frame) trucks. That and if something does go wrong, parts are dirt cheap. A look on my local CL shows a...

Help Me Pick Out a Used Big SUV Around 5K

I'd go GMT800 suburban (99-06). No reason to go older if you can spend up to 5k and they drive much better than the older ones. This is one of those times where you may as well buy a bit newer to get a more reliable/modern truck. I'm not sure I see the appeal of the Armada/QX56 if you want a...

    99-2003 Porsche 911 Cheap

You won't find carbons on a stock 911. That was a bad example. In the 996 generation, they're only loaded Turbos and even then, extremely rare. Rotors are $100-150 each, nothing insane. http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/996J/POR_996J_BRKPAD_pg4.htm#item16

    99-2003 Porsche 911 Cheap

It's a little hard to say. The problem with them is the engines are prohibitively expensive, think 10-20k, so they're approaching the value of the car. That means the forums are full of fear-mongering and people talking about how their engines exploded. Realistically, you have a single digit...

    99-2003 Porsche 911 Cheap

I  mine. The IMS is largely an overblown issue. At this point, most cars have had them replaced, and if not, sellers know that it's a big sticking point with buyers, so they price the repair into the sale price (or do it themselves). For 20k, you can now find a well sorted one, or a...

Leased a new 2014 Corolla S plus with a dent.

You're over-thinking it. Body shops do this for a living. Removing a headliner on a car is something an average Joe can do in an hour. The dealer said he's going to make it right, so give him the chance to do that. The fact that he's sending it to a body shop vs. hammering it out himself...
