GEOS - Kicked the crap out of having to do all that typing.... Workbench 1.3 - Was the first WB to allow autoboot from device OTHER than the floppy and was the most stable/compatible with all the (then) curent games. Windows XP - It's still enjoying a pretty good run...

Curious glitch in Vista build 5536

I haven't tried Oblivion, but when I tried to load up Prey, it crashed out with a driver error. I managed to get Madden 07 to load and play, but the graphics were kind of funky. People in the bleachers were sitting on thin air and occasionally displayed other small glitches, but the game was...

What is the biggest newb mistake you have made since you got interested in computers?

Swapped out motherboards on my old Athlon 1GHz machine. I reinstalled the heatsink and got everything back together. Powered on and screen went black, a puff of smoke and a nasty burning smell. Turns out I didn't bother to check the heatsink before reinstalling and a piece of my old MS...

What was your first computer?

Commodore 64 with 1541 floppy drive. Also did my first mod on the Commodore 64. Took an old SID chip from a broken C64 and put it in the other for "stereo" effect.

I also have a BEFCMU10 (ver 2, btw) and was having the exact same problem. I ended up swapping it out with a Surboard SB5100 and haven't had any problems since.

America's Army V1.9 - single player or online only?

Yeah, patching it shouldn't be a problem. Your CD will most likely be the same 1.9 that was available online for download. It's a blast to play (especially if you've never played before) and even better if you can get some good teammates. Enjoy!

America's Army V1.9 - single player or online only?

I beta tested America's Army for about a year. I first started on dialup and it was never a problem at all (except for some disconnects) and was able to hold my own against players with faster connections most of the time. You'll need the latest patch, though, as 2.0 is the current version :)

I know how to format a HDD in dos using win 98 disk...how can i format NTFS in dos?

NTFS is proprietary to NT based operating systems (Windows NT, Win2000, WinXP). In other words, you can't format a drive in NTFS from DOS. Like mentioned above, boot from the XP CD and format in NTFS...

How good is WalMart "Quality" dial-up internet?

A buddy of mine has it. It's OK for basic web surfing from what he tells me. It gives him major pains with his e-mail, though. It apparently sees fit to filter some of the e-mail I (and others) send to him.

No problem, and yes, using that setup you could decode Dolby Digital from your DVD's. Digital is only the format through which the signal is passed. Most games, apps, etc on your computer will only pass an analog signal. That was the big selling point for the Soundstorm audio, it could take...

Radeon 9700 Pro: Image is "off center" at high resolutions...

In your ATI Control Panel, click on your DISPLAYS tab and then click the button for your monitor. Is the maximum resolution set as high as your monitor will support? If it's only set at 800x600, for example, games will not properly display resolutions above 800x600.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA on an A7N8X Deluxe

What size sticks of RAM? I got this error consistently when I was trying to use two 512MB sticks of Crucial PC2700 a while back. Turned out the RAM was incompatible and was giving the errors. Not sure if this was ever fixed with a BIOS update or what as I swapped the Crucial for some Corsair.

Remember the Commodore 64?

I had one in Jr. High school. I remember when my orignal crapped out and I replaced it, I pulled the SID chip out of it and "piggy-backed" it onto the new one and modded it for stereo. Eventually I upgraded to the C128. Still have the C128 somewhere, but sold the other accessories years ago...
