Thanks for all the help. I think i'm going to wait a month (i'm gonna be on holiday round europe for 3 weeks of that month anyway). Will probably get the 128meg version of R9000 standard since in the computer industry, the conversion rate still seems to be 1 us dollar = 1 uk pound. :(

Does anyone know if the new sis chipset has agp/pci locking? I know that 645dx didnt' which what put me off that chipset. since i'm upgrading at the beginning of october, that'll give a bit of time to see how the 648 will fare against i845g
If you got the money for a p4 2.53 most people here would probably advise you to get a p4 1.6A and oc it to something like 2.2-2.4ghz and get a more expensive motherboard (the asus). I know thats what i'd do.

I know the asus p4b533-v and epox4g4a+ support it, but the asus is far too expensive and the epox board sounds like its best avoided (highpoint controller and some memory bank issues). Does anyone know anything about the gigabyte board, msi 845g max or abit bg7?
