Which CPU is faster Pentium M or P4 w/ HT?

not exactly true, HT will help more than that - programs send out multiple threads and thus there will be slight speed improvements in many programs even with only one program open.

Jeff is correct - the A64s (non fx) are top-locked, thus many boards can allow lowering of the multiplier

DDR 2700 vs 3200 for a P4 800fsb cpu

nevertheless if you used pc3200 at the same fsb speed that benchy would be much higher- the p4 is ALL about bandwidth availability - due to the fact it has a long pipeline, stalls will really hurt performance, that is why you need the fastest mem bandwidth possible.

semi-noobie OCing advice

you should buy 466 mhz to do that, 400 will not push it unless you lower the ddr ratio to 1.6x200 fsb abit is7 i hear is mad overclocker, so is albatron's 865 pe version right now i have a p2.6c@3.2 ghz with some corsair 3200 at 395 mhz mushkin, kingston, corsair, and ocz are all very good

Best bang for the buck? AMD / Intel

p4 would be best for video work 2.4c is an excellent overclocker, better than 2.6c due to lower multiplier

Help, need new system.

I would definitely recommend the A64 3000+... its a steal and should overclock at least to A643200+ speeds, and beats the intel cpus at similar speeds

exactly right, russiansensation is deadwrong. If that were the case, no one would overclock past having to lower ram timings. It has been proven many times that faster ram speed in mhz has a much greater performance improvement than cas latency etc

no athlon xp requires memory faster than pc 2100 - any athlon xp would work with it

yes go with that, then get some high quality ddr, and you can up the fsb without unlocking the cpu since its only 1600 + :) should perform very well

PC vs Mac, which one is better?

pcs would win - tests have shown them to win even with mac g4 velocity engine etc. price is also a big factor $2000 faster pc vs $5000 mac .. i wonder what i would choose.

AMD XP1800 at 1.75 GHZ - quick help

well check if ur mobo has a 5/1 pci/agp divider, if it does raise the fsb to 166 (333) and lower the multiplier and it should be good there BTW the multiplier does not have any effect on memory speed but fsb does, therefore its better to have a higher fsb, the 5/1 divider will keep the pci and...

dude u misunderstand, i was saying it was POSSIBLE for a 200 fsb to be attained with a 1/5 divider, not that 1/5 would have a 200 fsb without ocing

i would go with the amd too, u could put money in the vid, if you need to upgrade later you could always buy one of the new thoroughbred revision cpus btw prolly to get to 200 fsb the guy would need a 5:1 divider, not very common

Yo, I would give urself a little room and buy a 533 fsb mobo, but i would buy the 2.4a, it has higher multipliers and thus can overclock further.. just they way i would go by the way beaker were those retail amds? if they were thats kinda strange edit: btw i have seen many people safely...

Yeah, there is no such thing as a 1.7A, sounds very suspicious. The memory bandwidth will be much better for the p4, go for that.
